nsane.forums
NZBMatrix, one of the leading Usenet indexing services, has shut down voluntarily. The website’s owners explain that it has become increasingly difficult to operate in a business where copyright holders vigorously protect their content. A large takedown notice from Hollywood’s movie studios as well as issues with payment providers are cited as reasons for NZBMatrix to throw the towel. 2012 has been a troublesome year for Usenet services. Copyright holders have rapidly increased the number of DMCA takedown notices they send to indexing and hosting services. In addition, payment providers such as Paypal are banning Usenet related sites over piracy concerns. As a result of these and other changes Newzbin2 killed their service at the end of last month, and today the very popular Usenet indexer NZBMatrix follows in its footsteps. NZBMatrix shut down a few hours ago and left a statement on the site explaining why. The Usenet indexer says it had to make this decision due to a “very large takedown request” from major Hollywood movie studios” While a takedown notice doesn’t have to mean the end of a website, NZBMatrix appears to have trouble automating the process. And with the increasing rate at which the notices come in, NZBMatrix can’t keep up anymore. “As everyone is aware we are DMCA/Takedown notice compliant, and always have been. Once this notice is completed we are left with an impossible task of policing our indexing bots. Even then it won’t stop there, there will be follow-up notices etc,” they explain. NZBMatrix adds that the more copyrighted material is removed, the less content is available to index properly, rendering a service such as NZBMatrix useless. “The Usenet Indexing scene is going through some changes, with content being removed from pretty much every provider its making the existence of an indexer irrelevant if the content does not even exists anymore.” The increase in takedown notices, coupled with issues at payment providers eventually resulted in NZBMatrix shutting down voluntarily. While there are still many alternatives to NZBMatrix around, it’s become increasingly clear that copyright holders are determined to wipe Usenet clean bit by bit. Breaking story, more details will be added later. Below is the farewell notice that was posted on NZBMatrix this morning. — The End… It is with our regret to announce that NZBMATRIX has closed. We have had to make this decision due to a very large takedown request from a company called Wiggin LLC. These represent the following: Federation Against Copyright Theft Limited (“FACT”), Paramount Home Entertainment International Limited; Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Limited; The Walt Disney Company Limited; Twentieth Century Fox Film Company Limited; Universal Pictures (UK) Limited; Warner Bros. Entertainment UK Limited. As everyone is aware we are DMCA/Takedown notice compliant, and always have been.Once this notice is completed we are left with an impossible task of policing our indexing bots. Even then it won’t stop there, there will be follow-up notices etc. Coupled with this is problems with payment providers, we have been through pretty much everyone out there, in the end they all pull out. There are massive server/bandwidth costs to pay, with the payments in-stability this is a very hard task. NZBMATRIX has never been the subject of any legal issues or threats. Also the Usenet Indexing scene is going through some changes, with content being removed from pretty much every provider its making the existence of an indexer irrelevant if the content does not even exists anymore. So it’s time for us to bow out… View: Original Article

Ambrocious
NZBMatrix was one of the best...this is a sad freaking day indeed... We need to do something to stop this or at least counter this...FAST! EDIT : nzbs.org seems to be down as well.......
edwardecl
Never really used nzbmatrix, I just use a combination of scenesource/releaselog to get release names, then copy paste that into binsearch.info to search through all the newsgroups they index, then go from there...I would find it almost impossible to shut binsearch.info as it does not promote piracy, it just indexes everything posted to all binary newsgroups including spam, just like the ISPs and newsgroup providers are allowed to do and give out an handy NZB file, and if they shut down releaselog or scenesource as they do actually directly link to file hosts... I'm sure a million others will pop up if there aren't already. Not as if you need a meaty server to host plain text names of files...Such a load of fail... MPAA = wait for site to get popular... take down site... repeat... then the next site comes along and rakes in the advertising money instead.Just add it to the pile of dead servers... suprnova,mininova,oink,newzbin,newzbin2,demonoid,demonid2 and probably a few others I've forgotten RIP... mastershake
i say once again this is a sad day up till the other day i would check this site almost 3-4 times or more a week for content. now i am doing the same as above where i check with the ddl sites to see whats new and use that to search for. though i never thought i would see the end of rapidshare they fought time and time again each time it was thought they were going down. i have had a rapidshare account for years now and used it almost daily between that and mega it left me a bit lost for a short time :wtf: but i dont think they will ever fully shut down usenet down but it could get to a point where the dmca's get to be coming so fast there will be no content left on the servers. im realllllllly hoping this new mega with the encryption will be a breakthrough for us all and everyone will start to implement it. this is a sad year for all of us and im just hoping one day that they will not be able to kill everything and shut it all down. where some people are there are little or no options for tv content so this is the only way to find things. Ambrocious
I found a place that is good enough for .nzb's but it will never be able to compete with nzbmatrix: http://light.spotplanet.org/index.php
nIGHT
It will only a matter of time before a majority of the population of this world will be charged, jailed, extorted and bullied to great extent. They (the copyright's holder and their enforcer along with the gov't that supports them) are digging their own graves. This will only incite a mass uprising against the few privilege ones (the copyright's holder and their enforcer) and the gov't that supports them. :P

They are now in "seize" mode and "consolidate" mode. Once you have everything and then make it unlawful for competition to exist in the personal sector (all of us), you can then take away personal rights. The ruling elite have truly lost their minds. They are crazier than I ever was.
marke68
Sadly i could see this happening some time ago,the matrix simply got too big and could no longer hide under the radar and ended up with a big target on its back.I wouldn't be too worried as somewhere just as good will pop up some time in the near future much the same way as when Oink shut it's doors, everyone thought that was the end of decent music trackers and along came what/waffles.Times change and we must change with them.
