When I searched for the driver, using the form, I got this version as official, non-beta. Now I search and get 306.97.Something happened and they moved this driver back to beta status, but it was not beta yesterday!Plus, betas usually carry a "beta" in the installer's filename... When I installed it yesterday it was labeled BETA then too, at least on the NVIDIA website, not sure about geforce.com. They certainly got people confused, it doesn't mention being a BETA in the article title on geforce.com, but in the actual article they say it's only a WHQL-candidate driver. More info here.
