Pedrito
Microsoft to Release Windows Blue, the First Free Windows Ever – Rumors Although Windows 8 was launched last month, Microsoft is already giving the final touches to Windows Blue, the new Windows iteration that’s apparently supposed to come with some really huge surprises. Citing sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, The Verge reports that Windows Blue is going to be released in mid-2013 and will comprise significant UI changes, most likely supposed to address the controversial Windows 8 features. The Redmondians are reportedly planning to make Windows Blue a low-cost or even free operating system, just to make sure all users will make the move to the new OS. The Windows SDK would also be updated to the new release, while Microsoft would encourage developers to create apps for Windows Blue, with a lowered focus on Windows 8. If rumors prove to be true, Windows Blue won’t be available as a standalone OS, so users would need an older Windows to upgrade. Last but not least, Windows Blue would also be the first product supposed to kick off a yearly update schedule for Microsoft, as the Redmond-based technology giant is looking into ways to challenge the other companies on the market, such as Apple and Google. Administrator DKT27 Posted November 28, 2012 Administrator Share Posted November 28, 2012 Changed the title and resized the text. ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few details have emerged on what's coming in "Windows Blue", the next big update for Windows 8, first revealed back in August, and which is expected to launch in mid-2013. Though Windows 8 little more than a month old, attention is already turning to what Microsoft has planned for the future of its new-generation OS. With over 40 million licences already sold, Windows 8 is off to a solid start, but it will come as no surprise to anyone to learn that the company is already working on updates for the OS. You may already be familiar with the product codename "Windows Blue." When we reported on it back in August, it was suggested that it would be a significant update to Windows 8 – perhaps delivered as a "Windows 8.1" Service Pack-style upgrade – at some point next year. The Verge today reports that Blue is a little bit more than that – not just an OS update, but a move towards a standardised annual update cycle across both Windows and Windows Phone. For Windows 8, it's said that the update, which is expected to arrive in mid-2013, will include "UI changes and alterations to the entire platform and pricing." On the user interface front, we at Neowin have heard from one knowledgeable source that the changes are expected to include the ability to customise the Start screen with more flexible tile sizes – along the lines of the Start screen that debuted in Windows Phone 8 – as well as a broader range of colour and background customisation options. Perhaps more interesting than this is the prospect that while Blue will almost certainly be a low-cost update, it may even be provided free of charge as a means to stimulate upgrades for all users. According to The Verge's sources, a new version of the Windows SDK will be released with Blue, and "Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built for Windows 8, pushing developers to create apps for Blue." It's said that Microsoft wants Blue to be "the next OS that everyone installs," although it's believed that the Windows 8 branding will remain. The initial Blue update is also expected to pave the way for a cycle of annual OS updates. A tentative release date for Blue beyond the mid-2013 time frame is not yet known. vissha
The only thing that made them sell 40 million is by the faster Windows 8 OS and giving at cheap rates. Other than those, most didn't like it. People didn't buy it with happiness. They bought only for the upgrade offer pricing. I think MS counted OEM products and upgrades as 40 million. And the next shock is Windows Blue. That too in mid-2013 will make Devs and consumers who just bought and learning Windows 8 Apps. I think Windows Blue will be just OS and nothing. They'll give it for free but will charge for all s/w or apps they gave with previous versions(like Media Center, Media Player, IE, Reader, Recovery Manager,.............everything). Already people are altering registry and using other tools to make Windows 8 better(to get the feel of Windows 7. And MS needs to learn from the issues and should give time for next OS(to make it stable). But they had just made a huge huge mistake!I think its time for change of Ballmer with Bill Gates' comeback/any new CEO to correct Ballmer's faults and recover MS from his hands. If MS wants to compete with Apple/anything, it must be stable and good to users and Devs(not just selling and changing lifecycle to a ugly one)

I don't think M$ is going to can metro as much as we'd all like to see it gone. M$ is too proud to accept their mistake. But, I'd love to be proven wrong. :)
a2ms
Already people are altering registry and using other tools to make Windows 8 better.. At least it is something that the OS allows, and they probably won´t ever sue does alternative start menu software companies for "jail breaking". I think a good side of Windows it that is pretty open/relaxed in that aspect. I think its time for change of Ballmer with Bill Gates' comeback/any new CEO to correct Ballmer's faults and recover MS from his hands. Bill Gates won't come back again, he had his time, made great things and a fortune. Now he is curing diseases and other more important stuff. kgamma
For the time being I really love Win8 even with the new Metro UI. A very fast and solid OS with a fresh air, I switched from Win 7 and I am not going back. I believe the new version of Win 8 with the code name Windows Blue, will be even better and more reliable :)
Administrator DKT27 Posted December 8, 2012 Administrator Share Posted December 8, 2012 Some more rumours suggest that Windows Blue is only for improvements for tablets and mobiles, so it's unlikely we will get our beloved start menu back as an option.
