First :welcome to the forum.

Second :it would help us help you if you post computer details ie : laptop? Windows ver. etc

Third :Whats the history of the problem, did you installed something before it didnt work anymore? did you have hardware problem or blue screen of death lately? have you partitionned, play with registry play with the bios or deleted something?

Restore de default setting in your bios

Try poping your windows cd in the drive so you can restore from it.

Ah, I see you took the time to register ;)

When you start the computer, you say 'Windows is loading', I take it you mean when you see the Windows XP(I guess?) logo and the blue process bar, right?

You say safe mode doesn't work either, that's bad, very bad. Have you had any virus/malware warnings lately, or has your system been acting 'weird'(popup screens randomly opening, much slower performance)?

What is the Windows version you're running? And do you have a Windows XP installation CD?

SP2

I'd go with what 3NIGM4 said and just reset your Bios either by entering the Bios at boot or using the jumpers and then insert your Windows XP Pro SP2 CD and try to do a repair...

(Repair will leave your other files untouched, so it's not a recovery or something)

Maybe your windows has got corrupted so better format than trying to repair it because windows repairs are like sore wounds always poping when the time is wrong so better to patch it permanently.

The error in English: Disk error. Press Ctrl - Alt - Del to restart. That can't be good, I vouch for reformat as well...

if its a disk error, i would put that hardrive in another computer and check for hard drive error with partition magic or such.

I agree with the Format

It's your best shot ATM... don't forget to backup ;)

if this is a bought computer from a company there should be a factory reset opition. i would try that first if you have one before formating. formating only good if huser has a win xp disk or recovery disk from the company.

btw used surge protection on the power and cable/phone line gong to the computer too?

Wow, so many advise! It's nice to see so many helpful replies within a day to the problem.

Normally, when you can't boot up (even in safe mode), I would advise you to use the Windows recovery tools in your CD.

Boot up XP using your CD and go to Windows Recovery Console by pressing R (Just follow the Windows instruction)

You should end up in DOS mode.

Next, key in "chkdsk /r" and let it run and repair. (without the quote)

Next, key in "fixboot" and then exit. (without the quote)

Reboot and hopefully this solve your problem.

Just spent several hours with friend's puter that did the same thing and the hard drive had bad sectors that were not repairable. Had to install new hd and re-install xp.

Jup /agreed with most..

I had the same problem,, But i knew what the problem was...

I turned the PC off with the power button.. WHEN it was booting.. (hehe, accidents happen xD)

Only option was a fresh install =)

I think you should take out your HD and connect it to another PC(don't execute any programs on that HD), then copy all files(no executables) that are important(like videos, music, images, documents and stuff like that) to the HD of the PC you connected it to and then put it back in your old PC and reformat it.

Hi, I think that error occurs because Drive Image didn't copy the Master Boot Record onto the new drive.

Did you tried 'fixboot' command?

or

Reboot and begin the Installation off the XP CD, but dont actually install it.

It should prompt you to either repair or install XP when its found your "Previous install's of Windows", so choose repair.

or if the above does not work,

In Windows Recovery Console dos screen, type

D: copy ntdetect.com C: (where D: is the cdrom drive), then type

D: copy boot.ini C: follow by

D:copy ntldr C:

These 3 files is needed for XP to bootup, it seem yours' is corrupted.

If all else fail, then you need to reinstall. :P
