Administrator DKT27 Posted October 12, 2012 Administrator Share Posted October 12, 2012 Microsoft has announced its Office 2013 productivity suite of software has hit the RTM build stage. People who choose to buy Office 2010 on October 19th will get Office 2013 for free when launched. About three months after Microsoft launched a free preview version of Office 2013, the company has announced that the major work behind the final shipping version of its latest productivty software suite is completed. In a post on the official Office blog, Microsoft said: Moments ago, the Office engineering team signed off on the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) build. This milestone means the coding and testing phase of the project is complete and we are now focused on releasing the new Office via multiple distribution channels to our consumer and business customers. People who get the current retail version of Office 2010 starting on October 19 will be able to get a free copy of Office 2013 when it ships sometime in the first quarter of 2013. As previously announced, people who purchase a new Windows RT-based hardware product on or after October 26th will get a "preview" version of Office 2013. The blog also said that subscribers to Office 365 Enterprise will get some "new capabilities" in an upcoming update that will be made available in November. TechNet and MSDN subscribers, along with Volume Licensing customers with Software Assurance will be able to get their hands on Office 2013 sometime in mid-November. Administrator DKT27 Posted October 12, 2012 Author Administrator Share Posted October 12, 2012 Office 2013 reaches RTM, general availability planned for Q1 2013 Volume license and MSDN availability starts in November, retail not until 2013. The Office team today announced Office 2013 has been released to manufacturing, signaling that development and testing of the next iteration of Microsoft's productivity suite is complete. In mid-November, the company will make the software available to Office 365 Enterprise customers, Software Assurance licensees, and TechNet and MSDN Subscribers. General retail availability will come later, at some point in the first quarter of 2013. Anyone buying a retail copy of Office 2010 on or after October 19 will be eligible for a free upgrade once the software is generally available. In addition to conventional retail copies, Office 2013 is the first version of Office that offers subscription pricing that's aimed at home users. Windows RT users could get their hands on the software a little sooner. Windows RT will ship on October 26 with preview versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Starting in November, updates to the final RTM version will become available for users of that platform. When we looked at the public beta of Office 2013, we liked much of what we saw. There was neat cloud integration, a clean, elegant user interface, a new extensibility model, and widespread minor refinements to the suite. While we were less than impressed with the new touch support, overall Office 2013 feels like a solid upgrade. View: Original Article
