nsane.forums
Previously known as just the Nokia "Glory", some new images and a video what is supposedly the low-end Nokia Lumia 510 has surfaced, and it will apparently cost just $150 outright. Earlier last month we first caught wind of the Nokia "Glory" Windows Phone device, which was said to be a successor to the low-end Nokia Lumia 610. More information has been revealed of the device, which we now believe will be called the Nokia Lumia 510, including pictures of the phone in the wild and a video briefly showing the phone in action. Originating from GSMArena, the site has confirmed through their sources that the Lumia 510 will be packing a 4-inch display, 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7277A chipset, 256 MB of RAM, just 4 GB of storage and a five-megapixel rear camera. Supposedly the dimensions of the phone are 120.7 x 64.9 x 11.51 mm with a total weight of 129g, and the phone will run Windows Phone 7.8 after an upgrade from WP7.5. The video (below) doesn't show a great deal of the device, but it's definitely small and looks like a more polished version of the Lumia 610. What's interesting is that the device will allegedly cost just $150 initially (off-contract), making it an extremely cheap option for those in need of a smartphone - and the specs aren't too bad for the low price you're paying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfef3xMC5gI View: Original Article

calguyhunk
Caring about low-end market, you are doing it right. :) Only thing bad is it isn't WP8. My thoughts exactly. Why the hell would Nokia still be pushing a dead WP 7.x? :o Knowing fully well that it won't update to W8? :nono: Reminds me of the time they were pushing Symbian even though pretty much everyone worth their smartphones knew that it was only a matter of time before it bit the dust. See where that took them  Had they put in W8 in that thing they'd have had a 30-40 million seller right there! :( Nokia still has a huge goodwill in most developing markets and the pricing would have been perfect for most students and first time smartphone owners to be in those regions ;)
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 4, 2012 Administrator Share Posted October 4, 2012 @calguyhunk: Thanks to high prices of Nokia phones, in India atleast, shits like Karbonn Mobile, Maxx, etc. are beating Nokia day by day. Why I don't approve of those companies? Because they are eating out the good mobiles. These companies buy extremely cheap circuits, screens, etc. from Chinese markets, bring them in lot, assemble them and sell them. They are known to provide no support whatsoever, warranty or not, buy the phone, if next day it's dead, it's dead. So to bring back the lost ground, Nokia should target Indian market even more. No matter that news guys say, Lumia 920 like phones will never sell like hotcakes like 510 can, if made and sold properly.I guess Windows 8 can't handle a low power phone. But if I remember correctly, MS had a high-limit of how much powerful WP8 tabs and phones should be. But then it's really watered down the limit to almost nothing. Meaning, as per MS, this phone is also fit for WP8.

You missed the biggest of 'em all - Micromax Lulz :lmao: I guess Windows 8 can't handle a low power phone. Meaning, as per MS, this phone is also fit for WP8. MS did impose that limit to avoid an Android like situation whereby a lot of companies were pushing through Droids with really cheap (feature-phone) hardware which was hampering the Android experience and giving a lot of ammo to Android critics and Apple fanboys ;)

You're right. I wouldn't differentiate between Samsung and MediaTek. I'm sure Micromax is good. Must have come a long way since their humble beginnings. Must be. Can't be so successful being totally crappy. :) But I was just making the point that MediaTek, Broadcom etc. who mostly provide these inexpensive processors that are used by the cheaper brands, do not spend as much on R&D as Samsung (Exynos), Qualcomm (Snapdragon), Texas Instruments (OMAP) etc. Or even the much maligned Nvidia (Tegra) for that matter ;) It's the design of their SoC that very often leaves something to be desired in terms of performance, versatility and power consumption. It plays a huge part in the gfx performance as well, not just the computing part of it. Of course, not being an expert in chip design, I'm in no position to tell you exactly the differences, but something tells me the money spend on R&D might have something to do with it :P Personally - and I'm embarrassed to admit this - I'm one of those brand guys :P I'll much rather pay 15-25% more for a recognized and reputable brand (applies not just to electronics, but to clothing, automobiles and home-builders/promoters among other categories) rather than look at 'more features per dollar' :) The problem with figures and numbers put out by these companies is that most consumers don’t have a clue as to what those numbers about their cell phones really represent. With processor clock speeds, as with Camera Resolution (Megapixel count), Battery Amperage (mAh), television and PC monitor refresh rates, contrast ratios etc. we all tend to just assume that bigger numbers = a better product. :nono: But be rest assured, like the chip makers I just mentioned, the battery suppliers to these 'economy' OEM's like Seido, or Mugen flat out lie about their mAh ratings of their batteries as well  Also, the cheaper circuitry, low quality batteries (even though they're often rated at the same or even higher Amperage), washed out (very often pitifully low-res) screens with poor viewing angles, poor camera with noisy picture quality, crackling sound and ordinary fit and finish are just some of the trade-offs for the extra 'features' they provide for the price. Can't have it all, I guess :P However, as long as one gets a valid warranty that they honor, there's not a lot to worry :)
implague
its not like that me too also a brand friendly guy but just to say not everyone is a power user or a gadget lover like us they're satisfied what they got that's the reason and yes its true micromax does give a warranty certificate and believe it or not I'm using it for a month it is a quite fantastic device in given price
