Hey guys.

Dell Precision http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/precn_t7400_specsheet.pdf is a Big metal box, basically a wind tunnel to cool gpu and dual CPUs,

with 3 big fans.

The largest of all makes a tremendous noise, which is what i'm meant to be addressing for a friend.

1. Replace front fan ? or Option 2. the fan is meant to slow down after boot but doesn't.

I am guessing the lack of OS or it has old BIOS.

So.

2a. I am searching for Bios update for the Foxconn Ls 36 RevA00 with no luck as yet.

http://www.cpuboards.com/cpu-boards/ls-36.htm

2b. Can I download Xp Pro safely anywhere as the box has a Key I just don't have a boot disc.

I am serious though you can hear this thing across the house haha!

Looks like it is running normally though. Maybe I should reapply thermal paste.

Oh it only has one CPU in, which I assume is fine.

And Samsung 4x 512 1Rx8 Pc2 5300f-

3. Should I just suggest to my friend to sell for parts and get a new pc or what?

Basically I figure I will install an OS, try to update Bios. Or fix fan speed in Software.

All they want to end up with is a quieter box and to run dual monitors.

So lastly can you identify any of this UFO?

I can't recognize most of this stuff:

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/xa3/teq/DSC_4924.jpg

DVI plug doesn't fit

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/xa3/teq/DSC_4928.jpg

Original/Spare RAM missing heat sink?

The mobo seems to only have 1 slot although I have two Nvidia Quadros here? Is it an old PCI card?

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/xa3/teq/DSC_4918.jpg

Lastly here is the initial boot screen:

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/xa3/teq/DSC_4909.jpg

It has no OS and it didn't look like this the second time around.

Thanks in advance for any input you might have.

Hi anemones2

So the problem is that the fan is running in safe mode.

That means that it only runs @ full spead.

There are a different reasons for that the first is that the setting in the bios is set to full and not the silent mode.

the second is that the fan is probably going to die and needs to be fixed.

Its an easy way to replace it, did it myself a couple a times with different computers.

The bios screen also is saying that there is a thermal problem ( which you also have seen ) 2b

When it has an oS on the HD just look up for the windows code and reinstall.

On the other hand there is an easy way to put windows 7 on it ( Legal )

If you need to install drivers you don't recognize just download Driversolution Pack

The computer is a good one so bying and replaceing parts is a good solution

Greetzzzz

Thank you!

1. It says thermal solution has been compromised which I take to be referring to me having the side cover off the case to take photos and the plastic funnel which channels the air over the cpu. Not the 'Thermal Solution' as in the paste. *chuckle. i.e. the Dell solution to thermal issues, being these apparatus/having the case sealed.

2. How? I need an os to get an os? Also i'd like to put win7 on legally, does it involve using the winxp pro key on the box?

+Dr Kash are you suggesting I update the bios then buy a new mobo?

Or that the mobo is so inexpensive, selling for parts would be at a great loss.

Hi,

When the pc is fine and only the fan is loud just place an new one on the right place.

Also put some new cooling stuf on your cpu

The bios of most of the Dells you can flash.

If you want to put windows 7 on it, use Ultimate if you want to activate offline

So there is a way to do so, just google for your motherboard or Pc type slic 2.1

Flash the bios and you will now have an slic 2.1 table in the bios.

You need this one to get the Pc activated with a tool called OpaTool.

Maybe you have to need to create your own slic 2.1 ( needs more technical input )

Good luck

JJ
