nsane.forums
The PC DVD software company CyberLink said today it has secured from a number of top PC OEMs to pre-load at least three DVD software products on upcoming Windows 8 devices. Microsoft made a lot of folks upset when it announced earlier this year that Windows 8 would not support DVD playback in its version of Windows Media Player, as it did for Windows 7. While DVD playback is enabled if people purchase the optional Windows Media Center add-on, Microsoft's decision has apparently left the door open for another company to swoop in and put in DVD software on new Windows 8 PCs. Digitimes reports that, during an investors conference call today, the Taiwan-based company CyberLink claims it has secured deals with a number of PC makers to have three of its software products pre-installed on Windows 8 devices. CyberLink's chairman Jau Huang said this success was due directly to Microsoft's move not to support DVD playback in standard versions of Windows 8. CyberLink also says it expects its media software to sell well when Windows 8 is launch. Indeed, a few days ago, the company issued a press release announcing that a number of its products have now been certified to run on Windows 8. That includes PowerDVD 12, the latest version of its DVD PC playback software. CyberLink also announced that people who have bought their products from June 2012 will receive free software updates so they can be compatible with Windows 8. Administrator DKT27 Posted August 11, 2012 Administrator Share Posted August 11, 2012 Great, open the door to allow all the crapware to enter. -_- No offence to Cyberlink and their system taking over codecs, but there's a reason why Norton and Nero products got famous in the old days. What's worse? If you buy a OEM PC, you'll have to pay $99 to M$ to remove crapware for you.

I think Windows should not come with any software at all, Microsoft or third parties, and let the users decide what they should install. Only my honest opinion... :P

I want my OS to be feature filled, and I don't mind burning 2 DVDs for that. :P What also matters is that, as a OS maker, one should make sure people don't start using or are forced to use something. Unlike MS. Windows 8 already has few things removed, Aero, Start Menu/button, and usefulness for example. :uhoh:

LeetPirate
Does this really affect us though? Buying an OEM pc always came with additional software such as Cyberlink Power DVD despite already having Windows Media Player. So now it will be an improvement because it will only come with 1 useless DVD software instead of 2.Won't affect clean installs, and don't we all use K-Lite pack to play dvds anyway? More importantly how many of us buy DVDs to watch? :P
