More than a week has passed since a DDoS attack took the popular BitTorrent site Demonoid down.

In an update on the situation, the sole tech admin of the site tells us that it will take a while before the site returns.

The DDoS resulted in resulting in a series of problems that may take a while to address. However, he does not intend to throw the towel for now.

“I don’t plan on shutting down, but if Im going to fix it I have to do it properly. That means upgrading a lot of our 7 year old hardware and maybe bringing up the beta only,” the admin told TorrentFreak.

Quite a few people have offered to help out, but the admin doesn’t want to expose sensitive user data to complete strangers.

“I have gotten a few offers to help but that means giving way too many privileges over the user data to a stranger…Can’t have that,” he tells us.

Users will have to be patient, but many of the older members have learned that by now. Over the years the site has had its fair share of downtime, sometimes disappearing for months on end.

“You know how it goes with demonoid. It might take a while but it will come back,” the admin concludes.

the longer it stays down the less likely i bet it will be to come back

if a ddos took it down before hackers will know how easy it is to take it down for months on end i doubt even if it comes back it will stay up long enough to be able to raise the money to stay a float

I think that obviously all file sharing sites will be under attack soon, as many already are today in one way or another. Suppression of freedom is the SAME THING as the prevention of file sharing. If they can successfully shut down nearly all of the major file sharing sites, it sends out the ripple effect that chills many new movements that may have formed and blossomed that would promote file sharing.

Special interest corporations will then move in and pounce on the golden opportunity to setup their very own file sharing services that will seem strikingly similar to all of the ones of the past. At first, these services will work like charms but they will all of them be tracked and traced or controlled in some way by the mega corporations. They know how successful it is to share files but they are angry more for the fact that THEY didn't spear head the file sharing movement, if they had done so, it would have morphed into a paid for service strictly. Naturally, they will attempt to hijack the movement. That will be their next major move once all or most of their competition is silenced. They may even attempt to pay off whole websites like Demonoid or The Pirate Bay in order to take the movement over. If someone offered you 50 million dollars in exchange to surrender your website, would you do it?

It makes you wonder really...with the ability to track and trace anything on the planet...why haven't they been able to completely take out The Pirate Bay? I hold the opinion that The Pirate Bay has been turned into the digital version of the Manchurian Candidate. It is operating still as a P2P website just fine but I fear that it has been compromised in more ways than one by the USA government.

On a side note, there is a global movement AWAY from this hostile takeover of all aspects of life. I see glimmers of hope yet.

The latest info , I saw it on BGR - Boy genius report, is that the Ukranian Govt took it down as a goodwill gesture to the US
