Android app goes free due to high piracy rate

The developers of the Android version of the zombie first person shooter Dead Trigger have made the game free due to what it claims is a high piracy rate on Android, even with its low 99 cent price.

We have heard that the PC platform is a bad one to use for games because of the high chances that the game could be pirated. As it turns out, the developers of a recent shooter game claim that the Android platform is also filled with pirates.

The development team is Madfinger Games, who previously made the third person sci-fi shooter Shadowgun for iOS and Android products. In June, the team released its second game, a zombie-themed FPS called Dead Trigger. The game came out for just 99 cents for both iOS and Android. Indeed, Google showed off Dead Trigger during its Google I/O conference as a way to show off the hardware of the Nexus 7 tablet.

However, while the game is still priced for 99 cents for iOS devices, Madfinger Games has now turned Dead Trigger into a totally free game to download for Android. In a statement on their Facebook page, the development team says:

The main reason: piracy rate on Android devices, that was unbelievably high. At first we intend to make this game available for as many people as possible - that's why it was for as little as buck. - It was much less than 8$ for SHADOWGUN but on the other hand we didn't dare to provide it for free, since we hadn't got XP with free-to-play format so far. - However, even for one buck, the piracy rate is soooo giant, that we finally decided to provide DEAD TRIGGER for free.

The statement seems to be a huge indictment against the Android operating system.

Yeah... Great game, amazing graphics... I still remember the time i pirated it in the first 2 hours when it just came out :P

But actually 99 cents is nothing for that game. But i don't believe that they made it free because of the piracy! ppl are pirating our game? Hey let's make it free so there are no pirates? :D

I believe that the in app items purchasing got really popular so that they made it free for all so they earn more money :) You actually have to use the in app purchasings to enjoy the game! Good thing that it is not hard to hack games in Android :P

Ah, thanks for confirming.

Bloody jerks. They used piracy as an excuse to make the game freemium. They can earn 10 times of what they used to earn.:
