nsane.forums
HTC's One phones are confirmed, and Galaxy Ses II and III are big possibilities. HTC's One X, One S, and One XL will all receive an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the company confirmed to Engadget earlier today. Even better for Android fans, Sam Mobile reports that the Galaxy S III will receive Android 4.1 "soon," and that the company is working on an update for the Galaxy S II, which just received its Android 4.0 update in the US in June. "If" isn't as big of a question with these phones as is "when." Four of these phones were released in the last quarter and one a little over a year ago, and all have proved very popular with customers. But as Ars discussed at length when pondering potential upgrade issues with the Nokia Lumia 900, the cell carriers play a heavy role in the approval and timing of phone updates. Even the Galaxy S II, a runaway success on several carriers, didn't receive its update to Android 4.0 until roughly seven months after the first Android 4.0 phone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, was issued. Factoring any lead time Samsung might have had with Android 4.0 as the manufacturer of the flagship device, the Galaxy S III's path to 4.1 could be even longer and more arduous; Jelly Bean was officially released in June, alongside the Nexus 7 tablet. HTC wouldn't provide any indications as to timing, but said that phones on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Rogers will all be updated, according to CNET. Sam Mobile says the Galaxy S III's Android 4.1 update is "almost ready" and pegs a release for August or September. View: Original Article

calguyhunk
I dunno why they wouldn't say anything 'bout the Sensation, say for instance. That cost as much as the S II when it came out last year. :o In any case, even if it does, I think either way, both the Sensation and the SII are gonna struggle to get the Android "K" update (4.2/5.0) officially (through Kies for S/S), which is a crying shame. :nono: How much could it possibly take for the Multi-Billion Dollar Multi-National companies to deliver constant updates, when rag tag individuals and amatuer enthusiasts on xda or Cyanogenmod will put in so much of their time and energy and give that to you for free with 'bout 90% funtionality intact  Contrary to popular perceptions, I just think it makes better business sense. Personally, I'll prefer something that the company promises me will continue to get the latest and greatest version within 90 days of Google releasing the code to the OEM's [as long as the hardware supports Google's requirement criterion] over something that I know will not get more than one update max  I am stuck with THIS on my Optimus One and I'm thinking of going back to the Cy 7.2 if only for stability reasons :( Surely, LG could have supported 4.0/4.1 on it 'cuz devices with ~similar specs are even today coming out with ICS  It would have meant that I would have bought another LG the next time 'round even though Touchwiz on Samsung and obviously Sense on HTC are far superior IMO ;) PS: Actually, give me stock Android any day. Especially the stock JB on N7 looks effin' amazing. I just hope (against hope :nono: ) that the OEM's don't tamper with it too much by overlaying it with their (often crappy) user interfaces :mad2:
