nsane.forums
An automated phone message confirms pre-orders should ship within three days. If you pre-ordered one of the new Nexus 7 tablets from Google Play since they were announced at Google I/O last month, you may be receiving it soon. The automated phone message on Google's phone support line is saying that Nexus 7 pre-orders have begun shipping, as reported by Android Police and verified by Ars. According to the message, all pre-orders are scheduled to ship within the next three days, and when your order ships, you'll be emailed a confirmation message and a tracking number. The $199 Nexus 7 is competing in the same price class as tablets like Amazon's Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet, but where the Android-based software on those tablets is streamlined for the purchasing and consumption of content from online stores, the Nexus 7 is running a stock version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and has full access to all the apps in the Google Play store as well as those from Amazon and other competing storefronts. That, plus significantly faster internals and a higher-resolution screen, make it a better general-purpose tablet than the Fire or Nook Tablet. The Google Play page for the Nexus 7 still says that the devices will ship in "1-2 weeks" as of this writing, which will probably change as the devices actually begin to make their way out to consumers. We don't know much about how many of the tablets were ordered or how many Google and Asus manufactured, but if the Nexus 7's sales are as good as its critical reception, this may be the kick in the pants that the Android tablet ecosystem has needed since Android tablets became a thing. calguyhunk
This would have been my first tablet, but for the 8Gb storage without an SD card slot, SIM card slot and rear cam :o Those 3 would really have made it the most complete tab at any price point! The lack of a storage option on a content consumption device is unacceptable unless you're providing a 64GB drive right out the box. Also, I wouldn't have needed a 10MP cam with 1080p vid, but c'mon! Not even a basic 5MP one with 720p @ 30fps? :wtf: Damn! Why do they have to spoil a gr8 thing by the tiniest of moronic decisions? I wish they had included all of that and priced it at $249 :( I guess I'll have to wait for Samsung/LG/Motorola's response :dunno: Also, this will reduce the prices of phones hopefully. A 1.3Ghz quad+1Gb RAM+8GB storage+720p display with Gorilla glass all for $199. Shows exactly how much we are being ripped off by Samsung etc. anyways :nono:

calguyhunk
@calguy totally agree with you!!!! well me too seriously thinking abt my first tab Haven't gotten around to buying one 'cuz of the price of the ipad. As for Android, the cheaper iBall, Micromax, Lava, Reliance, Airtel ones are unfit for human (content) consumption :hehe: And in any case the problem with those devices is that they're horribly underpowered with hardware specs from the Jurrasic ages, so as to speak. Equally importantly - probably even more so, actually - they'll never ever get an update, not to mention the total lack of sophistication in the design and execution with an awful user experience. So not gonna touch 'em with a bargepole :nono: Also, Honeycomb unfortunately didn't turn out to be the OS that we all hoped it would be. So the Galaxy Tab 7 was out of question - clunky with a sub-optimal OS. And the 10.7" one just priced itself out of contention ;) The best thing 'bout Nexus branded products is that you know you'll always be the first to get an update
