A federal appeals court has lifted the US sales ban on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone at the company's request, at least until Apple can respond with a new request to ban the phone.

One week after a federal judge placed a US sales ban on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a federal appeals court has now lifted the ban on the Android 4.0 smartphone at the company's request. The previous ban on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is still sticking around.

The Verge reports that the appeals court lifted the ban on the Galaxy Nexus sales following a request from Samsung. However, that decision may be short lived as Apple now has to respond. Apple, which claimed in February that the Galaxy Nexus violates four of Apple's patents, could request that the appeals court put the sales ban back in effect for the rest of what will likely be a long patent trial period.

Earlier this week, Google removed the Galaxy Nexus from its online Google Play store. Samsung and Google are reportedly planning to release a software update for the Galaxy Nexus that they believe will solve the issues Apple has with the product. So far, that patch has yet to be released. Google claims that the Galaxy Nexus will return to the Google Play store sometime next week. It may also receive its promised upgrade from Android 4.0 to the new Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS soon.
