The Playstation 3 has had one major redesign since it was first released in 2006. Now there's evidence that a second major case revision may be on the way soon. A recent filing by Sony with the Federal Communications Commission appears to show a previously unannounced 4000 series PS3.

The FCC filing has no other information, other than a couple of diagrams that show where the FCC approval label will be placed on the console. Eurogamer.net claims it has heard that the design could be a "super slim" version of the PS3 and that the official reveal will be made during the Gamescom event in Germany in early August.

The original PS3 was launched in November 2006. In September 2009, Sony discontinued the original PS3 version in favor of a model design that was 32 percent smaller than the original. It also used much less power. However, the new Slim PS3 took away the backwards compatibly feature to play PS2 games that the original PS3 model had.

Sony has officially been silent about their plans for a Playstation 4. However, many rumors claim that Sony will launch the PS4 sometime before the end of 2013.
