In a surprising move, Chinese video card manufacturer Colorful seems to have decided to enter the high-end graphics adapter market. After presenting the world’s first fanless GeForce GTX 680 video card, Colorful has presented the first AMD-based enthusiast targeted product under the ColorFire brand.

We’ve already reported about what’s probably the world’s first video card cooled by a 120 millimeter cooling fan here.

Now we have more details on the company’s wonder product.

ColorFire Radeon HD 7870 XStorm graphics card is a completely custom design with characteristics that could house the “Tahiti 2” GPU from AMD.

The AMD Radeon HD 7870 XStorm from ColorFire is cooled by 8 nickel-plated heatpipes ventilated by the impressive 120 millimeter fan.

When we get to see under the cooling system, we’ll quickly notice the length of the card and the double-sized VRM.

Yes, ColorFire Radeon HD 7870 XStorm graphics card reportedly comes with a default 8+1+1 onboard VRM, but that can be improved by a 4-phase VRM card that allows the card to draw even more power.

AMD’s Pitcairn GPU is very modes on power consumption and quite capable on the frequency side. If good cooling and stable, clean current are provided, AMD’s Pitcairn could possibly overclock higher than AMD’s “Tahiti 2.”

Considering that the Radeon HD 7870 XStorm graphics card comes with a dual 8-pin power connector, we believe ColorFire can be accused of “overkill,” but we applaud the company’s dedication and attention for overclocking enthusiasts.

The PCB is so long that ColorFire has provided it with a support brace for workstation cases and Apple Mac Pro.

To top everything off, ColorFire has even provided Radeon HD 7870 XStorm with dual-BIOS chips for the event in which the card is setup to work with settings that prevent it to power up properly.

The card has already started selling in China, but we don’t have any info on the price.
