KilJaden
AV-comparatives.org tests mainly on behalf of the vendors, but also (very rarely) for third-parties (like magazines, etc.). The project was founded in 2003 by Andreas Clementi, which is also the CEO and current Chairman of AV-Comparatives. Vendors interested in getting tested by us can contact us by using the contact form. You can write in English, German or Italian language. Magazines can use our published results free of charge, as long as a source is given. In order to keep AV-Comparatives alive and independent (and provide our results free of charge to consumers), we charge since 2008 a fee for various services we provide, but it has no influence of any kind on results etc. AV-Comparatives is a Non-Profit-Organization.HomepageAugust 2008 on Demand resultsTo get an overview of the comparatives, we summarized them in tables. You can find them here.

Marik
not really, if you just use the 2017 key we have, and update it via manual way (grabbing the updates from the site yourself), the key won't get blacklisted

MadBandit
avira is pretty good,I certainly recommend using it for anyone not needing a paid up subscription.I'll stick with NOD32, yeah it may only be "3rd best" but its consistantly in the top 3 for the last few years...Tried and tested! bearoninternet
First of all, thank you the post KilJaden. :dance2: Normally, i dont care about avtest results (i will explain why later, read on).The tests may be right, i have no evidence or what so ever to backup my opinion (and it is just an opinion),but really, this bothers me (i will not post direct results as this is forbidden :drunk: )They gave 3 stars to Symantec  ANDMcAfee (with Artemis) 10 (and others, see the report for yourself).Be afraid, be very afraid.I'll just stick to my own experiences and keep my faith on eset. Nod has never let me down the last years.I am not saying it is the best or better than the rest, dont start a war, all i am saying is it works for me...If you look at the oldest report, you'll find mcafee in second place....Even first on the second report. And so on and so on.That's exactly when i lost my faith in av-comparatives.org and switched to nod, which they later gave first place /stars several times from 2007 and up untill now (two stars). The thing about avtests is, they always just test isolated viruses ,spyware or false positives. They (as far as i know) dont browse the web to see what they get hooked up to, download warez and stuff, or view some adult content :) to test the av.And thats where safety is different from any test results.A good uptodate av is critical, but above all, common sense is the best av out there. And that's why i don't care about any av results.
