Instagram for Android updated; now includes tablet support

Recommended Posts

It was just a few days ago that Instagram finally released a version of its popular iOS photo editing and sharing app for Android users. However, the company has wasted no time in offering what looks like a pretty major update for the Android app. The new version, 1.0.3, is now available to download via Google Play.

The new version now allows Instagram to be downloaded and used on the many Android-based tablet devices that are available such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab products, the Motorola Xoom and others. It also allows the app to be used on WiFi-only headsets. Finally, if you don't have a lot of internal memory inside your Android device, this new Instagram version lets you put the app on a SD card, if available.

The Android port of Instagram has been a huge hit so far, with well over one million downloads of the app generated since it launched a few days ago. The company has also posted up a quick FAQ on its press page with some answers to some common Instagram Android questions. One claims that the company has been preparing for the massive amount of new users, saying, "Our Engineering team has been focused on infrastructure scaling to ensure that users have the best experience possible. Our Community team updated our Support Center to include both Android and iOS issues."

And will we see an Instagram app for Windows Phone at some point? The FAQ says, "We have nothing to announce at this time, but we are always actively considering ways to expand Instagram's utility to everyone in the world."
