Bolt_Gundam510
by ErnestoThe popular Internet television network Revision3 suffered from a severe DDoS attack, launched by the infamous anti-piracy organization MediaDefender. After targeting The Pirate Bay’s trackers, MediaDefender apparently thought it was a good idea to spread their fake torrents through Revision3.The CEO of Revision3 - Jim Louderback - was quite surprised when he found out that MediaDefender was the source of the attack that took down their entire network this weekend. He found out that MediaDefender used the Revision3 BitTorrent tracker for the fake torrents they upload to various BitTorrent sites. In a lengthy blog post Louderback explains what happened, as he writes: “Media Defender was abusing one of Revision3’s servers for their own purposes – quite without our approval. When we closed off their backdoor access, MediaDefender’s servers freaked out, and went into attack mode – much like how a petulant toddler will throw an epic tantrum if you take away an ill-gotten Oreo.”MediaDefender’s attack effectively took down the Revision3 BitTorrent tracker this weekend, and people were unable to grab the latest episodes. That was not all, the flood of SYN packets also took out their webserver and their email. These kind of attacks are illegal according to US law, and if Revision3 decides to pursue this case in court, it would not be the first time MediaDefender gets caught. Only a few months ago, The Pirate Bay sued several media companies that hired MediaDefender, for exactly the same behavior. Pirate Bay founder Peter Sunde said at the time: “They are going around accusing the pirate community for doing immoral stuff, when they do illegal stuff. We need to make a statement that just because something might be hard to fight it doesn’t mean that laws do not imply in the case.”Louderback has no idea whether the attack on their network was intentional or not, but said he involved the FBI. “Was it malicious? Intentional? Negligent? Spoofed? I can’t say. But what I do know is that the FBI is looking into the matter – and it’s far more serious than toddlers squabbling over broken toys and lost cookies.”This is yet another epic fail in MediaDefender’s history, and this might very well be the final punch to knock the company out. Most of you probably remember the leaked emails and confidential information, which cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars, and brought them on the verge of bankruptcy. To quote MediaDefender’s CEO Randy Saaf: “This is really fucked.”Update: Ironically Revision3 seems to be down again because of all the traffic the news generated.Source: Torrent Freak

voodoohippie
Good maybe the FBI will teach these spoiled media punks that they can't go around playing the judge and jury all at the same time. Its time to fight back just as we did in the late 70-early-mid eighties with the Commodore 64's and Commodore Amiga's. I remember groups like Eaglesoft, Red Sector, Elite Cracking Force, The Towering inferno and many many more. Those days if you were caught trying to betray an elite group especially at the upper echelon your punishment plus anyone in the household you may be living with was severe. Any one of you remember the 0700 At&T Alliance teleconferences that were created via using PBX's scanned by war dialers and codes kiddies as they were called? Heck I even remember people getting their electricity turned off in the middle of the night or worse yet someone called into their local 911 switch and faked like the person was threating to commit suicide and the police would come to their house with red lights and flashlights in their eyeballs. Yes if this were to take place now I guarantee you some of this pantie waste stuff would cease to happen for the fear of God would be in anyone's mind who ever thought about going against any software Pirate. Problem is the head members don't have the guts to do that anymore. Phone phreaking became obsolete when flat rate long distance came out. However the inner knowledge should have been passed to all would be Pirates and Crackers of any real elite group. Fear of God is the key to loyalty of any crime syndicate that is why some gangs in the US are feared by law enforcement and they are continueing to reign terror. But in cyberspace we need a little terror to straighten up this mess. This is only an opinion folks. My favorite trick was when someone's phone line was set up with ultra call forwarding and then set to a party line where the rates were high like 011-592-279-288. Back then it was a sex line with chat features. You would then set up an 800# up to their house when the unsuspecting betrayer was on vacation for a few weeks. When their phone bill came in the mail it usually came in a UPS truck. Imagine the shock and awe of that. This was all true non imaginary in any way because lets just say I know people personally that this happened to. I could write a book about it. Funny thing was when they called AT&T to complain about the charges they told them that the calls originated from their phone like (which it did through ultra call forwarding). So AT&T usually would not take off the charges and the person would then remain phone less. Imagine a business like MediaDefender without a phone or such poor credit that they had to pay a severe deposit just to own one line let alone several. Internet spoofing or IP spoofing is harder, but maybe the same things could happen via their own ip address's. When they go to court and play innocent the judge will throw the same medicine back at them saying "It came from your IP!" I'm sure there are ways to forward an IP address much in the same way a phone switch is re routed via hackers and phone phreakers. After it is a switch, just a different type of switch lol.
