BitBox Browser Sandbox

If you've ever worried about browser security, here is a really nice

browser that runs from within Linux VM on Windows:

http://www.chip.de/downloads/BitBox_48987303.html

The page is in German, just click on "Zum Download".

The actual browser is an English version.

The browser in the box platform has been developed by Sirrix AG.

The actual VM was packaged by Oracle.

http://www.sirrix.com/content/pages/BitBox_en.htm

The browser itself is just repackaged/rebranded Firefox version 9.0,

but the nice thing about it is that it runs inside Linux VM.

BitBox download contains Linux image+browser.

All nice, very smooth installation, runs behind corporate firewalls etc.

I've tried installing popular add-Ons: BetterPrivacy, CookieManager,

and NoScript. All worked seemlessly. So far I'm very impressed.

From the Windows user perspective, BitBox runs as a native Windows application.

No Linux knowledge is required to configure and run this browser.

NB. been using this for a while now and it's totally flawless!!

Love points always nice to receive :)

Browser in the Box

The virtual environment for secure and comfortable surfing

The first of Sirrix on behalf of the BSI for the federal agencies developed a virtual surfing environment "browser in the Box" is now widely available and allows each user to surf the Internet without danger.

The use of the Internet is important to our everyday work - if only to gain information - imagine no more. At the same time the PC is used for handling confidential information, be it personal or internal, mission-critical data. The immense benefits of the Internet are faced with its ever-changing threats. The browser development in recent years can be understood apart from all functional and comfortable progress, especially as a steady race in the fight against various attack scenarios.

Ever since the Internet "Web 2.0" was active, the risk - benefit balance been lost. "Active content" of today's websites are no longer indispensable, modern websites are indistinguishable from native applications to full-barely.

Single-user version is available free

On the basis of a "browser-in-the-box" concept is provided in a transparent way for the user a virtual machine with a reduced operating system and Web browser encapsulated therein. Malware can not penetrate into the base operating system and a possible damage to the separated virtual machine is removed from any browser start by returning to a certified baseline.

Unlike the simple sandboxing method of standard browsers, the separation of an entire guest operating system in isolation all the activities of the browser completely from the host operating system. Only a shared folder is in the base operating system for a separate user account accessible. Here are all persistent configuration data (favorites etc) the browser saved. Also, all from the Internet downloaded files are stored here first before they are made after a malware scan to the user in his usual download directory.

In addition to the thus produced substantial protection of the base system from attacks from the Internet also upload files to the Internet is effectively prevented and thus jeopardize the confidentiality of important corporate or government data not already been through the provision of Internet access.

"Browsing in the Box" allowing a cost-effective care-free sailing in full comfort. The costly and complex administration for dedicated terminal server as an alternative for safe surfing is avoided. Reduced performance in today's computer architectures are not to be expected.
