Xbox 360 update released; fixes video color issue

Microsoft has released a new update for its Xbox 360 game console, which reportedly fixes an issue that caused owners to see washed out colors in the Xbox Dashboard.

Xbox 360 owners should be seeing an improvement in color on their game console today. In a new update on the Major Nelson web site, Microsoft's Larry Hyrb revealed that a new update is now available to download for all Xbox 360 users that will fix an issue that started appearing after Microsoft released the massive Xbox Dashboard update in December.

After the Dashboard update, a number of Xbox 360 owners said they experienced washed out colors while watching video playback on the console. Microsoft at first seemed to ignore these complaints but a few weeks later admitted that they were aware of the issue and were working on a fix.

In today's Major Nelson post on the newest Xbox 360 software upgrade, Hyrb stated:

This update will increase performance and is part of our continued effort to provide the best possible Xbox LIVE experience. In this update, we are providing a fix to a color issue that some were experiencing, and it will be immediately notable in the dashboard. The fix is also being applied by partners to their apps on Xbox LIVE, which we expect to roll out over the coming months.

While the video color problems may have been fixed, some users have also complained that the Xbox Dashboard update have caused videos designed to be run at 1080p resolution to be scaled back to run at 720p. So far, Microsoft has yet to deal with this video resolution bug.

ummmmmm lol NO THIS KILLED ALL phat rgh consoles, and they just got slims working with it but can not longer extract cpu key yet so if you have not rgh yet then at this time you are out of luck till they can, this was WAY MORE than a "color fix" it actually updated the phat's to a dual cb-b like the slims were... DO NOT update unless you are stock at this time!!

The new 2.0.14717 dashboard is being rolled out globally this week and so far we have seen possible changes to the CB that may affect RGH consoles.

As always we suggest that you do NOT update until it has been investigated further.

In the meantime if anyone has an RGH console and they have updated – please post your test results and changes (both FW and RGH). We require the new dash update files both slim and phat (all versions). CB updated from 5771 to 5773 which is now a 2 stage nand on the phats which used to be a single one. you can at this time no longer extract your cpu key unless you have prior to the update

re flashed to latest update, booted first time, with coolrunner set to prog, (turned off)

switch it back to normal it just sits there with solid green and red lights."

as of now the xkey360 seems okay and to be working as long as you do the update in passthrough mode..

ill keep this updated as i get more info
