Feds Seize Sports Streaming Domains in New Super Bowl Crackdown

In a new round of seizures the US authorities have taken control of domain names belonging to several popular sports streaming sites including Firstrowsports.tv, Firstrowsports.com and Soccertvlive.net. All affected sites now redirect to a notice from DOJ/ICE. In common with last year’s campaign, the new round of seizures appears to be part of another “Super Bowl Crackdown” targeting sites that link to unauthorized sports streams.

US authorities began another round of domain name seizures a few hours ago, targeting several sports streaming sites.

Thus far, neither the Department of Justice nor Homeland Security’s ICE unit have officially commented on the seizures, but it can’t be a coincidence that sports streaming sites are being targeted a few days before the Super Bowl is due to be aired.

The targets of today’s seizure round include Firstrowsports.tv, Firstrowsports.com, Firstrowsports.net and Soccertvlive.net, but more may be added in the coming hours. The former remains operational via Firstrow.tv.

For the first time, seized domains also include the .TV extension as Firstrowsports.tv is now displaying the familiar seizure banner. The .TV domain belongs to islands of Tuvalu, but is operated by the US-based company Verisign.

Last year there was a similar round of domain seizures during the lead up to the largest American sports broadcast. At the time the feds seized a dozen domains including Firstrow.net and Atdhe.net.

Both sites continued to operate under different domain names, several of which have been taken down today.

The seizures in 2011 also targeted domains linked to the website Rojadirecta, owned by the Spanish company Puerto 80. Despite being declared legal by two courts in Spain, the US authorities ruled that Rojadirecta was a criminal operation. The company has been fighting in US courts to get the decision overturned, but so far without luck.

Another target during the seizures last year was ChannelSurfing.net, which was operated by the Texan Brian McCarthy. The 32-year-old McCarthy was later taken into custody on suspicion of criminal copyright infringement, and he is currently awaiting his trial.

The extent of the fallout of the new “Super Bowl Crackdown” will become apparent in the coming days. It will, however, once again fuel the censorship debate which exploded last month with the SOPA/PIPA protests and the MegaUpload shutdown.

Seizing alternative streams of Football, because nobody DARES to be progressive. Rather than be angry with these streaming websites that are merely trying to be mirrors, they should embrace them and support them. Trying to be like something isn't bad.

Perhaps the official major hosting channels could hire additional mirror websites so that they could take their wonderful football to new and more expansive levels. There is nothing worse than denying innovation to move forward in which it's time has come. By stagnation of advancement, there are multiple forms of abuse and refusal to adapt by these major companies. People are ready to advance forward on their own, the government and corporations can come too...or they can imprison, sue, and demoralize our efforts to live better, dare to dream and succeed based on the Republics moral grounds and towards our pursuit of happiness. Derailing/stopping competition is VERY destructive because it does not ALLOW for advancements by the freedom of the people. The outcome is no new growth and no new ideas, at least no new idea's that are LEGAL to implement.

An easy solution to end these illegal broadcasts is to make the official broadcasts BETTER than these illegal ones. Competition is the essence of moving forward and learning. If there is no competition, there is never enough ideas that create unique flavors and spectrum's of advancement in life. Making something bigger and better is creative and should be encouraged by all means possible. Making it illegal to have competition is the very essence and flavor of tyranny.

The Thing is even i did the same thing in 2008-2010 during these years i have made several people involved in this streaming of them now very famous.

The owners of Firstrowsports & Soccertvlive use to earlier stream for my site until i got busy and closed it. I had a word with them yesterday they were all like we will start another site with another domain. The Atdhe used to have multiple streaming of his own and must have earned millions by now.

The Only reason we streamed was that many sports coverages are not available in many countries. Also the EPL was a major business and with this online streaming on could see multiple matches at the same time with Just FLASH+Decent Internet Speed. Those Who Pay Could only watch the matches which the TV Channel would select & not the one of his/her choice. Streaming Business is like gambling. You can approx earn anything through google ads if they dont block you 500$-4000$. To End Video Piracy one should have no country restriction for watching games and of his/her choice.
