Tweety.Abd
Please note that the replies should be relevant to the topic. The discussion is about free AVs, and out of the list of AV-C, only Avira is free. But I believe Avast can be tweaked further and more than Avira to enhance performace. Knightmare
A lot of people like Avast and AVG. I've found that AVG slows the system; however, the last time I used it was in 2010, so maybe they've improved. Avast seems to have good protection that doesn't slow the system. If you ask my coworkers, they suggest Avira; and Security Essentials seems to do a fair job of keeping viruses away. If you want, go to Youtube and search "[name of AV] test." There's a guy who tests antiviruses and how well they do against certain viruses.

grouchysmurf
I do not have an answer to this, but I have to say that avast is not liteon system resources. It started off well, but as time went on it started to getkind of sluggish, and wanted more and more system time. It is a very goodfree AV however.I think that by their very nature AV products will impact system time, boot and all. They are suppose to. A decent AV will be scanning upon boot, and then scanning the system start up.If you want fast boot up, turn off the scan on boot options.

grouchysmurf
I have been driving Panda Cloud for a bit now.I like it. Lite on the system, but a real good response to threats.
