Taking a shorter break than their last vacation, Anonymous is back at it already. Reports are coming in that they had completely knocked out CBS.com and are continuing their revenge spree. The CBS takedown wasn't your regular DDoS attack because if you went to CBS.com at the time Anon attacked it, there was nothing except an index page with a single file. That's it. Basically, Anonymous gained access to CBS.com and deleted EVERYTHING.

CBS.com has managed to put itself back up but we'll be on the lookout of Anonymous' next move. This is going to be interesting. Last time Anon went on a revenge spree, well, the DOJ, RIAA, MPAA, Universal, EMI, FBI and others all got a piece of the takedown fun.

Update: Looks like they just took down UniversalMusic.com again too!

Update 2: Anon is now going after websites in Brazil. The Hacker News reports that websites of Brazil's federal district, the city of Tangara da Serra and popular Brazilian singer Paula Fernandes have been brought offline in a DDoS attack. Anonymous' message on the affected websites? "If Megaupload is down, you are down too."

Update 3: Vivendi, a French media company involved in music, film, TV, video games, etc., has been brought down too. Vivendi used to own Universal

EDIT: updated to a more recent and informative article.

How important is it for us to access those sites?

It's the least important, what is important is that people start boycotting anything and anyone who benefits, profits or supports the kind of censorship and witchhunt that has ensued/transpired.

I think this move is an attempt to show that these big corporation can not control everything. Their inability to fend off hackers from disrupting their business, may help others realize that they also can do something against this tyranny.

Heh....the DDoSing is just the beginning. I'd bet that that the hackers of anon are hard at work trying to crack open the sites of anyone that is tied to this crap. Since when have anon ever stopped with just a little LOIC action?

There are thousands of Anonymous members out there. Every day at least a dozon people join the cause for a new age of cyber justice. After meeting one such member in person recently I can safely say that I love Anonymous as an idea. People within the group can eventually make poor choices if not careful but the idea of a digital BatMan system is a good way to go for now.

Hell of a way to convince people of the wrongs of things like SOPA... with what is really Internet terrorism.

By their own comments, Anonymous are claiming to be (self-appointed) judge, jury, and executioner of the site of any company that disagrees with them.

Never been a fan of Anonymous... IMO this is just another of their cowardly, harebrained, little thought out schemes. Just like SOPA is, don't for a minute assume I support SOPA, I don't, but deleting and DDoSing sites that support it is not how to show opposition.

I understand where you're coming from Karlston but what CAN be done about the injustice? A vigilante is never seen as a good guy by the authorities for obvious reasons but when the lack of action is not legally taken to reduce tyranny, what can be done WITHIN the law, especially when the law is being twisted so much that it is disintegrating THE ACTUAL laws of liberty for all?

I don't think anyone WANTS to play the role of a vigilante. It can't be fun knowing that your freedom may be forever compromised by doing what you do. It's a literal war. I don't see Anonymous as terrorists but I do see them as a group of people who need more tact and some sort of official training about what thier goals should be in order to have some firm orginization. They are trained in the skills of hacking, but not too tactful. Right now, they are just retaliating like crazy; like a cornered wild animal?

Something needs to be done about the injustice of the open and free internet, and like Batman, Anonymous can be seen as the good guy AND the bad guy.
