Sony Ericsson introduce the Sony Xperia S

Sony Ericsson have announced their first "Sony" branded smartphone in the form of the Android 2.3 based Xperia S. The device comes with a dual-core processor, improved camera and a great screen.

Despite being a Sony Ericsson device, the Xperia S will be “Sony” branded and is classed as the “first Sony smartphone”. The smartphone will become part of Sony’s new Xperia NXT series of mobile devices with a number of new products expected to be released from the company over the next year or so.

The Xperia S features:

The phone will also be another in the line of “PlayStation certified” devices, which allow access to the PlayStation store, and a host of PlayStation certified games and applications.

The Xperia S is set to be released sometime during the next couple of months, despite this the device will not launch with Google’s Android 4.0 operating system code named Ice Cream Sandwich, the company say that it will receive an over the air update to the new OS sometime in the second quarter of the year.

The Xperia S looks like another strong good-looking device from a company that has been improving both the design and feel of their smartphones for sometime. How it will hold up against ever increasing competition in the Android based phone market is anyone’s guess, but Sony are clearly still putting all their eggs into Google’s basket rather than looking towards Windows Phone.
