SkyDrive has received another update, adding geotag support for photos uploaded that contain location info. Reports suggest that more changes are in the pipeline, so expect further updates soon.

Even though SkyDrive was updated quite recently in November, reports are coming in that the build number has been bumped up once again to 3004. Along with a version change the update brings a much-needed addition to the photo-sharing tool: geotagging support.

Reported by an anonymous tipster on LiveSide, location support has been integrated directly into the gallery feature. Now users have access to a Bing map on the sidebar which allows viewers to zoom in and see exactly where a photo was taken. Those familiar with geotagging will be aware of how accurate the technology can be, so you might want to think twice about who you share your SkyDrive pictures with in future.

Social networking users will be used to similar features making themselves more prominent. Twitter has been making tweet location a big part of its service for quite some time now, and Facebook recently updated its Places feature to allow users to add in location from their computer. SkyDrive has now joined up with the places party, but it is completely up to the user who they want to share their photos with.

But the team isn't stopping there. Reports suggest that Microsoft is already hard at work on version 16.3 of SkyDrive (also known as Wave 5 Milestone 3). Considering how quickly this update came about, expect more changes to come sooner rather than later as the team looks to expand on an already-winning service.
