Maxhedroom
Something tells me that SOPA isn't going to fair well...roflmfao"Alec Liu of Fox News reports that Amazon, Facebook and Google are considering a coordinated blackout of the internet to protest SOPA, the Stop Online Privacy Act being debated in Congress. From the article: 'Such a move is drastic. And though the details of exactly how it would work are unclear, it's already under consideration, according to Markham Erickson, the executive director of NetCoalition, a trade association that includes the likes of Google, PayPal, Yahoo, and Twitter. With the Senate debating the SOPA legislation at the end of January, it looks as if the tech industry's top dogs are finally adding bite to their bark, something CNET called "the nuclear option." "When the home pages of Google.com, Amazon.com, Facebook.com, and their Internet allies simultaneously turn black with anti-censorship warnings that ask users to contact politicians about a vote in the U.S. Congress the next day on SOPA," Declan McCullagh wrote, "you'll know they're finally serious."'"Can you imagine the world wide revolt if FB, Twitter and Google went offline!!!Original story:http://yro.slashdot.org/story/12/01/02/157217/net-companies-consider-the-nuclear-option-to-combat-sopa
Ambrocious
Hmmm...even though Facebook and Google are creations of DARPA (so to speak) and CIA fronts, they have also become legitimate websites as well and maybe here at the end of the battle of the free internet, they realize what this means for THEM now. Do they finally get it that they too are a part of us or do they still believe that they are in with the world elite? Only time will tell if they are truly FOR us or if this is just a phenomenal PR stunt.

Alanon
Well, maybe so. However, the vast majority would panic for not being able to do the what's-its-name on the Wall, or whatever it's called. The average Joe would probably think that he has a virus or something and panic (for he doesn't know about SOPA).I would be cool with it, don't use FB, don't do online shopping outside my country (for once, the handicap of not having PayPal in the country would prove useful), so no Amazon anyway, and rarely when Google for stuff that I can't already find on the websites which I frequent, so I could survive with no search engine for a few days with no problem. It's not about if you can live without them, it's a show of solidarity against SOPA! Down with the SOPA!!!Oh and when I read this, i thought facebook and google were hiring bomb makers... :(I had the pentalite and glycerin ready... was even reading up on how to cause nuclear fusion with the heat from a nuclear fission bomb... I wonder when my skills will ever be of use>? :/
Alanon
And I'm all for it. There are many like me who will support it, because it has little effect on my browsing experience, and truly is for a good cause. But most people want the internet as a service only. And they won't care why they can't get there, only when willl it be up again. Like when you have a toothache, and find out your dentist had shut down the clinic. Is your first question going to be Why?, or When will he open so I can get what I need from him?
