Proposed law prohibits TSA employees from dressing like cops

The STRIP Act, proposed in the US House of Reps, would require TSA employees to stop dressing like police officers, because they aren't cops, and when they give orders to travellers, travellers assume that these are the orders of real law enforcement officers, rather than minor bureaucrats:

The bill, which has drawn 29 co-sponsors in the few weeks since it was introduced, would prohibit any TSA employee "who has not received federal law enforcement training or is not eligible for federal law enforcement benefits from using the official job title of officer, or wearing a metal badge resembling a police badge or a uniform resembling the uniform of a federal law enforcement officer."

A TSA official said the badge and uniform represent "the professionalism of our employees and the seriousness of our work."

So you will forfeit all of your rights and accept unlawful arrest because both TSA and Police can detain you? I would also love to see you hide behind a TSA when you are threaten by a gunman.

not forfeiting anything. if you fly you take off your shoes. that is all. the only difference between today and pre 9 11 is your family cannt be waiting right there when you get off the plane. that is it. i actually get on a lot faster now because of it. u see i have miltiary id. not going to have a problem. what they need to do is de union these tsa and put them back to private and not federal. and they need to start profiling

Your ignorant comments have just proved my point. There is a huge difference between not knowing your rights and not having rights.

Here are some of your rights in TSA screenings that the police *do not* need to follow:

• TSA employees do not have the right to detain you because they are not policeis.

… but they can call the police, who can detain you, and in ½ of US states, can demand ID also

• You have the right to have patdowns conducted in private

• You have the right not to be touched by anyone without your consent

… except the minimum “necessary to detect weapons or explosives”

25]… but you must be told before being touched how you will be touched, and consent

… except when being detained or arrested by police (not TSA)

(Full List @

TSA Rights)

Think about how you would feel if you, your family, friends, or child gets unlawful patdowns at the airport by someone who is clearly not even a police officer. This new law is in reponse to growing cases of TSA abusing and over stepping their authority and acting like a police when they are clearly not (you can google: TSA abuse).

myidisbb, STOP pulling stuff out of your ass and claiming it as the truth. I think it's great to contribute to topics but what you are doing is just spreading fud or thread crapping.

not pulling anything out of my clean ass. we have a tsa and searches ect because of 911. you want to blam anyone blame those murders that send others to die instead of themeselves. tsa workers should be in some kind of uniform. not some office clothing. if you have to be searched or pat down get it over with quickly and move on so you dont miss your flight. if it all brothers you so much there is always driving.

The purpose of this article is to inform not to blame. The only person I am blaming right now is you -- for sidetracking the topic and crapping on this thread.

I presented factual evidence to help clarify the reasoning behind this proposed law and and all you want to do is just ignore them and go off on tangents. Did you even read the article? Where in the article does it say TSA will be dressed in office clothes?

The article clearly explains that TSA employee should not dress like cops because they are not, and should wear uniforms that will distinguish them from real police officer so passengers do not get confused as to what kind of authority they are dealing with.

In case you forgot how to read again: TSA can not touch you unless you consent, but police do not adhear to those rules if they suspect you have weapons or explosives.

Not all TSA agents are bad, but there definitely needs to be better rules to protect against unlawful TSA actions. If you want to be stupid that is your choice, but if you don't want to read then stop wasting my time.

Yes, we definitely do not agree on the subject(even now i still do not understand your reasoning). However, I think I was a little over the top earlier, and I apologize if I seemed a bit offensive.

Have a Happy New Year!
