More hints toward Windows 7 coming in 2009

Aside from Bill Gates saying the next version of Windows may come "in the next year", there is more evidence of Microsoft's early release plans on their website. On this page, the second sentence in the article reads:

Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be available until the later of June 30, 2010, or one year after general availability of the next version of Windows.

So the next version of Windows will be released by June 30, 2009. That's about one year and two months from now.

Not totally true, they say whichever comes first. So Windows 7 could very well be released in 2015 as far as we know. Then support for Windows XP will just end on June 30, 2010... But it is most likely that MS will release Windows 7 around the same time(+/- 1 year is my best guess) as one year before June 30, 2010.

read it again

you can clearly deduce what they are saying...it's coming next year

No, what they are saying is:

Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be available until the later of:

30th June 2010

1 year after the release of Windows 7.

No where does it say Windows 7 is coming in 2009 :P

What you can deduce is:

Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be available till 2010

You have too much time on your hands :)

Lite is exactly right about what is being said.

Yep he is, but you could (like marik and i did) 'guess' that Windows 7 will be available around the same time as one year before that date. Because else they probably wouldn't say something like this. Don't understand me wrong, Lite is absolutely right about what they did or did not say, but they do give some kind of 'signal'.

they say that Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be available until the later of June 2010...which could also mean dec 2010....1 year after win7 will be released....

so Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will def come in 2010

and win7 will be launched in 2009

The problems lies in the interpretation of the word 'or' in this sentence:

Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be available until the later of June 30, 2010, or one year after general availability of the next version of Windows.

You (probably) think that with 'or' is meant 'speaking in different terms' but we (Lite(correct me if i'm wrong) and i) think that by 'or' is meant 'one of those, whichever comes first'. I can't confirm nor deny both or interpretations... We'll probably just have to wait (a few) year(s) and find out :) 'Or' until MS clarifies this.

Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be available until either the 30th June 2010 or one year after the next general release of Windows, whichever comes later in the calendar.

If Windows "7" is released on 30th January 2009, Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be supported until 30th June 2010

If Windows "7" is released on 30th January 2010, Windows XP Home for ULCPCs will be supported until 30th January 2011

That's how i read it anyway...

:)
