Virgin Media denies anti-file sharing agreement

Virgin Media has denied reports that it has reached an agreement with the UK recording industry to run a pilot scheme to deter illegal file sharing.

The internet service provider (ISP) agreed that it had discussed a 'three strikes and you’re out' policy with the music industry trade association, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

Under this scheme people who habitually downloaded copyrighted music from file-sharing sites would be given two warnings by their ISP before having their broadband service disconnected.

However, Virgin Media said it felt that this measure was too draconian, raised privacy and legal issues and would also be too costly for ISPs to run.

Ironically they've updated their UseNet by offering the 'premium' NewsGroup servers. i.e .x264 ect. Still seven days but thats fine I'd say. :welcome:

They still have the one thing I stay with them for and thats CABLE. ...And unlimited.

The only downfall lately is the traffic magagement between 4pm and 9pm - Which I hope they soon get rid of.

? 4-9pm more like 6-12pm and later sometimes here in London,

been getting worse lately too.

Presumably their going to track torrents etc, how will they cope with rapidshare/megaupload/filefactory etc, what with the legit traffic and all.

In Teesside its 4 till 9. It took its time to get here as well.

As of yet they haven't bothered with BT traffic. (I don't see them doing it any time soon) I can pull 2.3mb/s all day off private-trackers.

how will they cope with rapidshare/megaupload/filefactory etc, what with the legit traffic and all.

From my experience of filehosting sites I don't see that much traffic coming from them mate.
