This latest update brings even fewer changes than the one before, but we want to make sure you get to benefit any new functionality as soon as possible.

Here's what's changed:

A new 'settings dialogue' which collects the various settings we have added during the past few updates (and will allow us to add more settings in the future without crowding the page). The 'disable tab rotation' in the Latest Community Activity was moved there as well.

One new setting: a custom dereferer. We used dereferer.ws for quite a while but there might be better services out there and we don't want to limit you in using these. Also when one dereferer service is experiencing difficulties you can always try another.

We improved the way we handle requests to the proxy from external sites. We don't allow downloading directly from external sites and before we would point people to the index which displayed an error message, but now we created a system which automatically refers the visitor to the download listing for the particular file they tried to access.

And as always feedback is much appreciated (this includes new ideas for the site)!

If you notice anything out of the ordinary, please make sure to refresh your cache (or just refresh the page) before you report it here.

Could you try describing your problem in more detail?

I don't think we ever supported 'resume abilities'...

Rapid release cycle? :D

I was thinking about putting that in the announcement, but for some reason it didn't end up in there :P

Also the new way we handle external links to the proxy is really important (the most important reason for me personally to push this update):

I see from our statistics we still get a lot (100 per day, 3000 per month) of 'visits' from sites that link directly to content on the proxy, these users are redirected to the index with a message 'Having trouble download a file? Have a look at the FAQ.', but it seems that between 40 and 50% of these people leave our site immediately ('bounce').

So 0.4 x 3000 = 1200 visitors who are looking for something we can offer them are 'sent home' without getting what they wanted. That's quite some people and since we like happy faces we now refer them to the page where they are able to download the file (and still display an error message) instead of referring them to the index. (If there's multiple pages that link to the file (like ESET fixes) the user will be referred to a list of these pages.)

 • 11 months later...

I can't believe it's been almost a year since I've written an update about the frontpage...

Anyhow just to let you guys know: there might not have been huge changes, but I made a few changes to the caching mechanism which will make sure that the frontpage will stay online even if the database were to go offline (except for the News pages (http://www.nsanedown.com/?news=162723528 for instance)).

In addition to that we recently traded in Polls for Giveaways in the Latest Community Activity box.

I also made some small bug fixes, but it's unlikely that anyone even picked up on them being there (for instance the custom dereferer setting didn't always work properly).

As the only change visible on the front-end is the Giveaways and the small bug fixes I don't think this warrants for a version number upgrade (and I actually like 2.2.2 :P).

More changes are upcoming, as always ;)

Sorry to chime in here about this subject but in the upcoming future, will there be an option for changing themes? As I recall in the past there was a poll for 2 different themes and it was short-lived before people stopped visiting/replying in it.

So curious if that might be brought into the forum in the future.

THanks.

The forum development is totally separated from the frontpage. We noticed time and time again that maintaining multiple themes for the forums is quite difficult, especially when the themes aren't updated on time and IPB releases some update which contains security updates as well; we had to wait for a theme to be released or move everyone back to the default theme.

As I don't think the current theme is horrible I don't think we will start supporting another in the near future ;)

 • 2 weeks later...

what about tapatalk integration? is that a wip or on the backburner for now?

Our forum should be accessible through Tapatalk (by searching for nsane in the app).
