Marik
Since the announcement of the iPhone/iPod Touch SDK, numerous companies have jumped on board with Apple to produce apps for it. Well its now sounds like Microsoft themselves are going to jump on board says Tom Gibbons, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Specialized Devices and Applications Group.Gibbons team of Mac developers are weighing up their options and seeing what viable applications they could make for the App store. The Mac Business Unit at Microsoft is a hugely successful part of Microsoft creating profits of over $200 million a year, and is the second most profitable software developer for the Mac OS, coming second only to Apple itself.Gibbons said to ‘Fortunes Big Tech Blog’ "It's really important for us to understand what we can bring to the iPhone," he said. "To the extent that Mac Office customers have functionality that they need in that environment, we're actually in the process of trying to understand that now."He also noted that they’re recent acquisition of TellMe voice recognition software company may come into play, as well as the location-based technology already in the iPhone.
