beer
(in Iranian, no subs)Rumor became reality yesterday when the Iranian military unveiled the downed US RQ-170 drone on national television. According to Press TV, the Iranian authority, “[...] has announced that it intends to carry out reverse engineering on the captured RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft.” Which is an interesting statement, because instead of being covert about reverse engineering, they’re coming out and saying exactly what U.S. officials are probably most concerned about. In case you’re curious, the Washington Post says that the banner reads: ““We’ll trample America underfoot” and “The U.S. cannot do a damn thing.”(source)

ghost
wheres the damage? another fake iranian product for the news media. shaking head. like their frekaen robot techsI could be mistaken But I thought 2 were taken down by them. The first one was shot down and the other was captured.Edit: I see your point , though. Because something that was brought down during flight would surely crash and have possible damage. Nemesis
even if they did reverse engineer it, i cant see them having the resources to to produce anything on a mass scale.
ghost
even if they did reverse engineer it, i cant see them having the resources to to produce anything on a mass scale. They may or may not be able to produce it on a mass scale, I don't know. What really concerns me is, if they reverse engineer it and sell the technology through back channels; possibly to another rogue state or maybe even terrorist. ghost
I think this forums has some Iranian members, don't you think you can talk a little bit better; so no offend to anyone, right? ;) Just in case you were offended about what I said, I am sorry. It was not meant to target Iranian people, but it is common knowledge that countries sell technologies to each other.Quite honestly I am concerned about the reason why US drones are even in Iranian air space regardless whether it was friendly or not. That could potentially trigger another war. Which I am sure the Iranians and Americans do not want.

These are sensitive topics for discussion and when you flame the thread like this it will ultimately lead to hostility or flame wars. If you have credible evidence to prove your accusations by all means bring it to the table.
grouchysmurf
I hope the military side of our world decides to eradicateitself. Then, the cyber side of our planet can finally take overand fix all the hate created by governments. It has ALWAYSbeen my belief that whole populations have been brainwashed to hate eachother all because 1% of the planets population are bigots in one way or another. But, cyber space has managed to undo some of that damage.I do not care what your religion is.I do not care how you wish to live.I do not care how you raise your childrenAll I ask in return is the same. And maybe if we ever meet,a cup of good coffee. Is that so freakin' hard?
beer
adding to the topic: It Won’t Be Easy for Iran to Dissect, Copy U.S. DroneBut Iran will probably need help from arms exporters Russia and China in breaking down the flying-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) — meaning the RQ-170′s secrets could ultimately fall into the hands of, well, pretty much every country with an interest in sticking it to Uncle Sam. Luckily for Washington, however, reverse-engineering a high-tech drone is easier said than done, according to two UAV designers who spoke to Danger Room on the condition we not print their names....In other words, the Russian, Chinese and Iranian experts will probably try to figure out the “recipe” for the RQ-170′s alloys and non-metal composites, which help minimize the drone’s radar signature, as does its bat-like shape. And that’s where reverse-engineering starts to get complicated. “Someone will figure out the [materials'] composition,” the Boeing engineer explains, “but producing them is entirely a different matter.”(Details & Full Article @ Source)I think this article addresses earlier discussions about who will get their hands on the drone, and the likelihood of reproducing the technology through reverse-engineering. I thought the full article was an interesting read if you want to learn more details. My opinion on the topic is that there is no doubt the Iranian/Chinese/Russian can produce these type of drones, but to make them with the same sophistication and technology as the RQ-170 would probably take lots of time, if ever. The article points out that along with hardware challenges, there are also software barriers to operating the drone. If you have thoughts on the topic or find other developments in this, please do share!(note: No sidetracking to Hitler, thank you )
beer
I could be mistaken But I thought 2 were taken down by them.[...]You were right there was a 2nd one, but it is in the possession of the Seychelles.Article: U.S. Drone Crashes in Seychelles, Air Force InvestigatingA U.S. drone has crashed in the island nation of Seychelles, an incident that comes just over a week after a U.S. drone went down in Iran. The U.S. Air Force confirmed that the unarmed MQ-9 drone crash-landed at the Seychelles International Airport Tuesday morning. "The cause of the incident is unknown and currently under investigation," the Air Force said in a statement. According to the Air Force, the Seychelles government was "immediately notified," and the U.S. military is coordinating with Seychelles officials to coordinate "the removal of debris." The drone that went down more than a week ago in Iran remains in Iranian hands. An Iranian military official said over the weekend that the country will not return the aircraft, as it considers the drone's presence a "hostile act." Iran's defense minister has called on the United States to apologize for the incident. It remains unclear what brought down the drone in Iran. The latest crash comes just hours after Defense Secretary Leon Panetta visited Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, the base that houses troops assigned to a unit in the horn of Africa and is home to a fleet of drones assigned to fly over the horn of Africa and some areas in the Middle East. Seychelles is located to the southeast of that base, off the eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean.
