visualbuffs
Chrome currently fastest browser, according to benchmarkFuturemark, the company known for its benchmarking software, has released a new version of its Peacekeeper software that's made specifically to test the performance of web browsers. This new version has been made to use the latest HTML5 standards. The program can be used on any Internet connected device which means browsers on the PC, Mac, smartphones and tablets can be measured.Futuremark states that since the first version of the Peacekeeper was released in March 2009, the program has tested 3140 different browser versions. While Apple's Safari browser was the fastest when the benchmark launched, Futuremark says that Safari is now the slowest of the web browsers that are tested on the PC and Mac platform. Google's Chrome has been the fastest web browser tested on Peacekeeper since May 2009 for the PC and Mac. However, it notes that the Opera web browser has been closing the speed gap.The most popular web browser among those who have used Peacekeeper is Mozilla's Firefox. Nearly 30 percent of all of the software's benchmark results come from versions of Firefox. In terms of their browser performance, Apple's iPad 2 is the fastest among tablets and smartphones, according to Peacekeeper. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet is second followed by the Acer Iconia W500 in third place, Apple's iPhone 4S in fourth place and the Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone in fifth place.View: Original Article
Administrator DKT27 Posted December 4, 2011 Administrator Share Posted December 4, 2011 Nothing shocking TBH. Chrome is fastest from a long time and will keep on being so. Having said, I don't fully trust Peacekeeper, regardless of it's results, it's known to have an history of, lets say, "identifying" the browser and giving more points in the days when IE used to dominate browser battles. toyo
Depending on testing method and tested PC, Opera might be even faster, beta and stable versions alike. So what? Who notices those miliseconds?
Administrator DKT27 Posted December 4, 2011 Administrator Share Posted December 4, 2011 @toyo: Last time I saw into Peacekeeper details, Opera used to beat Chrome in all the things, except one in which Opera seriously lacked the points, I believe it was called Data by Peacekeeper. This new version has made me in mood to do the testing. But no time. I'll do when Firefox 9.0 releases. :)
T0nyB
Chrome might be faster, but still, Firefox displays sites much better, smoother and trouble freely then Chrome. There's just something about Firefox that just always feels better then browsing in Chrome...
Alanon
I don't know. I've made the switch from Mozilla to Chrome a while ago, when they started with version 4, and now I love it.From time to time, I still try and go back to Mozilla, but it's turned in to a complete pig on my system. It uses around 800 megs of memory, so I end up ditching it every time. O.oIn my opinion, the only version able to cut it was the good ol' 3.6, but it's a fossil by today's standards. And Chrome has truly come a long way as far as add-ons are concerned. And the scripting is great.
Gabben
Chrome is the best!
Snowdrop
I switched from FF to Chrome awhile ago too. Sure, FF still has the better customization options and apps (extensions or w/e you call those nowadays), but Chrome was, and still is, lightweight and loads much faster. Tweety.Abd
I ran this benchmark with several browsers on my computer, and yes I have to say that it the test results are dependent on the system specs to a great extent. As for the fastest browser for me, it was Opera 11.52 till the current latest version of Chrome was released.
T4C Fantasy
in all honesty and coming from a web developper IE displays pages the best, i ran my php in all browsers and it looks by far better in IE with the latest code IE shows bolding and font size in all the right places, opera was misplaced, firefox's borders were bolded and looked disgusting, and chrome's font sizes were screwed up
