This isn't the usual list of extensions that everyone is used to using, but 10 add-ons that many may not know about, but can be very useful for everyday web browsing.

I use none of these - they don't bring anything that is really useful, only fun. Although Firebug and All-in-One Gestures are tools that make my Firefox browsing really pleasent.

The zoom add-on and the Download Statusbar are quite handy... However i don't know why FasterFox isn't mentioned, that's a must have for me. It really makes your webpages load faster.

Yeah! what's wrong.

@Shought

Yes, firefox is already pretty damn fast with faster fox, but did you know that you can tweak it and improve the speed even more?

That's the beauty of firefox being open source.

Thought you might like to try this :

In the URL bar, type “about:config” and press enter. This will bring up the configuration “menu” where you can change the parameters of Firefox.

Note that these are what I’ve found to REALLY speed up my Firefox significantly - and these settings seem to be common among everybody else as well. But these settings are optimized for broadband connections - I mean with as much concurrent requests we’re going to open up with pipelining… lol… we had better have a big connection.

Double Click on the following settings and put in the numbers below - for the true / false booleans - they’ll change when you double click.

Code:

browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs – true

network.http.max-connections – 48

network.http.max-connections-per-server – 16

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy – 8

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server – 4

network.http.pipelining – true

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests – 100

network.http.proxy.pipelining – true

network.http.request.timeout – 300

One more thing… Right-click somewhere on that screen and add a NEW -> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. Since you have broadband - it shouldn’t have to wait.

Now you should notice you’re loading pages MUCH faster now and enjoy!

Thanks for this! It added some more speed to my browsing :dance2:

As i switched to ubuntu i needed an alternative program for roboform, i found this extension: sxipper

Also as most of you probably know, adblock plus is a great extension.

Yep AdBlock Plus is great! It saves your bandwidth and you don't see those annoying adds anymore.

Just to remind you guys, since most of us have "Adbolck" extension it'll be good for this site or any site that you'd like to support to be added to the white list.

Hmmmm, how come I have it?? Or did I create it? Can't remember, never mind, you can create New>Boolean and type "browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs" and set it to true

New>Interger and type "network.http.request.timeout" and set it at 300.

enjoy!

"showSingleWindowModePrefs":

Tabbed browsing is often touted as one of Firefox's killer features.

Indeed, it's very useful, but the default preferences aren't perfect for everyone.

Firefox's preferences allow you to control how tabs respond to certain types of events.

There are some preferences that control whether new tabs load in front of the current tab or behind it.

These preferences correspond to the types of events that can open a new tab. True means "load in foreground"; False means "load in background",

Do you hate it when links on Web pages open new windows (because they set a target attribute on the link)? You can force Firefox to open those links in a new tab instead of a new window. This is called Single Window mode. It doesn't prevent all new windows, but it catches most of them.

I can't remember "network.http.request.timeout" is for, but read some where that it is of low priority now in new version of firefox.

But I still experiment with it, found nothing irregularly, and as such left it as per setting.

Hope this helps!

I don't see how Fasterfox changes anything, I'm not using it and pages load fast for me,lol.

Also, whats the usefulness of download statusbar? It's more in the way than the download window.

I'm using Cooliris previews, wonderful when using google :)

Too many add-on will cause leaks to firefox, ie it takes up system resources. When firefox browser is on, Memory Usage should not be more than 80 MB,

when browser is minimize, firefox should release most of this memory, if it doesn't, then there is a leaks.
