nsane.forums
The web browser wars is still dominated by a version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer. NetMarketShare.com reports that IE 8 from Microsoft is still the leader worldwide with 29 percent of the market share for PC browsers for the month of October. The latest versions of Google's Chrome (14.0) and Mozilla's Firefox (7.0) are in second and third place with 13.65 percent and 10.18 percent of the market, respectively.Microsoft loves to spin the numbers a bit on its official Internet Explorer blog and in October it is no different. 34.9 percent of Windows 7 users now use Internet Explorer 9 here in the US, followed by Chrome with 14.3 percent and Firefox at 11.8 percent. Microsoft has continued to try to get Internet PC users to dump Internet Explorer 6, which still has 7.49 percent of the browser market. It is still close behind IE 9 which has 9.79 percent. While Microsoft sees getting rid of IE 6 as a priority, due to security issues with malware creators, we think the real issue is with Chrome and Firefox. Microsoft continues to stick with slow releases of new versions of its browser, while Firefox and Chrome keep releasing new versions with major new features and performance improvements. Chrome handles these software updates automatically while Firefox is constantly releasing new versions of the web browser. We think Microsoft needs to start to do the same, with rapid releases of major new software updates for Internet Explorer. Browser users are expecting such things at the moment and Microsoft needs to move with the tide towards faster updates of major new Internet Explorer software versions. Administrator Lite Posted November 1, 2011 Administrator Share Posted November 1, 2011 Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 share on Windows 7 has grown again in October.Microsoft predicted last week that Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 could be the leading modern browser next month, behind Internet Explorer 8 usage. That prediction may ring true within days as stat counters Net Applications released their latest monthly browser share report on Tuesday. Internet Explorer 9 hit nearly 35% of all browser use on Windows 7 during October for U.S. users. “Worldwide, the numbers we predicted on Friday are looking good,” said Microsoft’s Roger Capriotti in a blog post on Tuesday. “IE9 is growing nicely and is on path to be the leading modern browser on Windows 7 behind IE8 as early as next month.” Overall usage of Internet Explorer 9 and 8 on Windows 7 worldwide sits at 52% during October.Microsoft's latest browser, Internet Explorer 9, was released in March to Windows 7 and Vista users. Microsoft ditched Windows XP support in a bid to shift consumers and businesses onto Microsoft's latest operating systems. Windows XP still accounts for a large amount of operating system usage share worldwide. Microsoft's competitors target Windows XP with their latest browser offerings, allowing them to pick up additional usage share from users unable to upgrade to Internet Explorer 9. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 bet with Windows 7 appears to be working well for the company.Microsoft is currently readying its Internet Explorer 10 browser. The company unveiled a platform preview 3 version of IE10 at its BUILD conference last month. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 10 platform preview 3 build is only available inside Windows 8, for now. The company previously delivered platform preview 2 in June and has revealed that the final version of Internet Explorer 10 will only be available for Windows 7 and 8. Microsoft confirmed in April that it has no plans to offer IE10 to Vista or Windows XP users. Future platform previews of Internet Explorer 10 will be made available every 8-12 weeks.
