There are a lot of security application available on the Internet with every one claiming to be the best. But trust me, I never found an application better than Kaspersky.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 is the latest in the line of security suites from Kaspersky Labs.

It protects your laptop or desktop from all latest viruses and worms. It keeps track of all the latest emerging threats on the Internet by consistently updating its database every few minutes.

New viruses and worms are released every minute on the Internet. Some reports suggest that numerous treacherous viruses, Trojans and spywares are created every minute.

Thus, updating your database every now and then is very important.

If you are some one whose laptop or desktop is not connected to the Internet, then there are chances that your Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 may not detect the latest viruses or threats which could leave your PC at stake.

Kaspersky 2012 Database Updater

In this post we come up with a solution to the problem of updating databases offline. That solution is a simple tool that updates your Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 database offline – it’s called Kaspersky 2012 Database Updater.

This is a special tool that Kaspersky has introduced in order keep the databases updated.

This tool should be run manually on another computer which is connected to the Internet connection where it gets the necessary database updates and later put into that computer which is not connected to Internet.

How it works (in brief) ?

When the first time this tool is launched, it will get all the necessary databases from Kaspersky server and put it into a special folder.

This special folder resides in the folder with the update utility. (this is done on a computer that is connected to the Internet.)

Then, copy this folder using a pen drive to the computer which has Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and is not connected to the Internet.

Once copied to the desired computer, configure Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 to get updates from this special folder.

On configuring and running update, the Kaspersky updates its database with latest signatures.

Next time when you again need to update KIS 2012, follow the same procedure but you need not configure once again as it would be already done.

If you didn’t understand whats happening exactly, don’t worry, look for the step-by-step instructions below.

Step-by-step instructions on how to use this tool

1>> Download the Kaspersky 2012 Database Updater to your computer.

2>> Copy it to a new folder of a pen drive(flash drive) that is connected to a computer with Internet and unzip the .zip file.

Note that : the full path to the folder with the update utility should contain only Latin symbols and should not contain space characters!

3>> Due to a large size of updates the first start of the utility usually takes some time. With each next start only missing, i.e. recently released, databases and modules will be loaded into the folder.(the approximate size of updates is about 526 MB).

4>> If you get an error saying “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem” at first launch of the Kaspersky database updater tool, then you are required to download the archive of VCRT8 libraries and unpack it to the folder where the utility located.

5>> Now from the unzipped folder double-click the file Updater.bat to run it.

6>> Once the file is started, the following window appears on the screen:

The window shows that the copying process has started (the path to the file Updater.exe, shown in the figure may vary from the path shown in the window on your computer).

7>> When the window disappears, in the folder of the update utility open the file iupdater.txt and make sure the file contains the following record (implying successful update):
