Java Runtime Environment 7 Update 1 / 6 Update 29

<img src="http://www.nsanedown.com/images/logos/java.png" class="logo" alt="Java" title="Java" />The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. Users should install the 32-bit version if they are using 32-bit browsers. If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively.

Thanks for update.

And the update 28? Did I miss something? :P

From Sun Java website :

Skipped Version Number

-------------------------------

Release Java SE 6u29 follows release Java SE 6u27. There is no publicly available Java SE 6u28 release. Oracle used release version 6u28 for an internal build, which was not necessary once the fixes delivered on Java SE 6u29 were released.

Hi I have a question, maybe someone can help. In this page http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-7u1-download-513652.html there are three options to download windows x86. I don't want the online option, I want the offline option to update from 7.0 to 7.1.

What is the one which doesn't say if its offline or online?

The important thing, I supose, is that I just want to update not install it new.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot for this information!.

A link to this information at their site:

Whats the point here, I thought Java 1.7 went live. Filehippo seems to think so and I know we do too.

Java 7 has not been released for the public yet, has it?

According to Oracle:

Why is Java SE 7 not yet available on java.com?

The new release of Java is first made available to the developers to ensure no major problems are found before we make it available on the java.com website for end users to download the latest version.

You should download the smaller file - jre-7u1-windows-i586.exe, and not jre-7u1-windows-i586-s.exe, which includes Yahoo Toolbar.

You're not the only one who got bugged with this question:

Now I learned something new myself!.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I have a problem with loading java applets in Chrome 16 beta, Firefox 8 and IE9.

I use Windows 64 bit and installed jre-7u1-windows-x64.exe. JRE didn't install java plugin in those browsers.

I have re-installed JRE after updating to Firefox 8, but still no java plugin.

the notice in Chrome regarding missing plugin redirect to download JRE 6 update 29 from java.com.

Should I uninstall JRE 7 and install JRE 6 instead ?

alex

p.s the problem surfaced running Secunia Software Inspector which downloads a java applet : http://secunia.com/software_inspector/

Because x64 is only for 64-bit browsers, not 64-bit Windows. Except IE, all normal browsers are only available in 32-bit version, even for 64-bit OS. In other words, install 32-bit version of Java in addition to 64-bit. ;)

I'll recommend using Java 6.x over Java 7. :)

Will uninstall JRE 7u1 and install JRE 6 32 bit.
