nsane.forums Posted October 17, 2011 Share Posted October 17, 2011 Samsung has announced that sales of its Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S and its S II smartphones have now reached the 30 million unit mark worldwide since launching in 2010.Hot on the heels of Apple announcing that sales of its iPhone 4S have reached over four million units in just its first three days, its patent enemy Samsung has struck back with its own sales announcements.Today the company revealed that it has sold 30 million units of its Galaxy S and S II smartphones worldwide since the original Galaxy S was released back in 2010. The Android-based phone has sold nearly 20 million units, more than any other smartphone in Samsung's lineup. Its newer brother, the Galaxy S II, has sold over 10 million units worldwide since launching earlier in 2011. Samsung said it reached that sales number quicker than any other smartphone in the company's history.Samsung has already attempted to compare the Galaxy S II to Apple's iPhone 4S via a chart released earlier this month. The chart shows that the Galaxy S II has support for true 4G networks such as WiMax (which is supported on the Sprint version of the smartphone), a much larger screen (4.3 and 4.5 inches versus the iPhone 4S's 3.5 inches), a removable battery and the fact that it weighs just 4.3 ounces compared to 4.9 ounces for the iPhone 4S.These sales numbers come on the heels of Samsung's October 19 announcement where it is expected to reveal the first smartphone that will run natively on Google's Android 4.0 operating system, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
