Apple has announced that iOS 5, the next version of its mobile (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) operating system will launch on October 12, along with the official launch of the iCloud service.

Before the new iPhone is launched, Apple will be releasing the next version of its iOS mobile operating system. Owners of the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices will be able to download the free update for iOS 5 on October 12. That's the word from Apple's press conference in Cupertino, California as reported by the Engadget web site. One of the new features that hasn't been announced before today for iOS 5 was Cards. It will allow anyone with an iOS 5 device to create a custom greeting card. Apple will then print it and send it to your scheduled destination. The price for each card will be $2.99 for here in the US and $4.99 for sending a card overseas.

Also launching on October 12 is Apple's iCloud service which will give users a way to store music, data and other content to Apple's cloud servers. Everyone will be able to get 5 GB of cloud-based storage for free and it will support up to 10 devices for free as well.

Apple also announced some other new features such as Find My Friends for iOS 5. This will let a user to see where his or her friends are who own a connected iOS 5 device if those friend turn on this particular feature. This new feature is being aimed for families to find their sons or daughter. Apple even indicated that moms and dads can keep their kids from disabling this feature.
