Enable Transfer of MP3 files through Microsoft Windows Live Messenger

As you all know windows live messenger is the most popular and the most feature rich messenger in the whole planet. Thus WLM has become the most used mesenger.

Out of the many features included in the messenger one security feature is the protection from receiving files with unsafe extensions.

Therefore, whenever you try to send or receive a file that has the file extension from the following list, Messenger assumes is potentially unsafe file and thus banned.

By default, Messenger blocks files that have the following file extensions:

.ade .adp .app .asp .bas .bat .cer .chm .cmd .com .cpl .crt .csh .exe .fxp .hlp .hta .inf .ins .isp .its .js .jse .ksh .lnk .mad .maf .mag .mam .maq .mar .mas .mat .mau .mav .maw .mda .mdb .mde .mdt .mdw .mdz .msc .msi .msp .mst .ops .pcd .pif .pl .prf .prg .pst .reg .scf .scr .sct .shb .shs .tmp .url .vbs .vsd .vb .vbe .vsmacros .vss .vst .vsw .ws .wsc .wsf .wsh

recently I found out that WLM also blocks the transfer of .MP3, this is bit annoying in the same time bit frustrating. We all know what MP3s are, and they are not harmful in anyway, and finding that Messenger blocks such files whereas it does NOT block other audio extensions is pretty annoying.

I have sent MP3s using WLM with no problems . . . :(

I just went and read the article. You should specify in your post that you're talking about WLM on VISTA. This issue does not exist on XP

Lol, no problem here toe send MP3 files with messenger <_< I can even send .exe files but then it's checked with a virus scanner before... Weird that some need the patch and some don't.
