We have reached yet another turning point in the circus that is Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter. Back in April, the Tesla executive offered to purchase the company for roughly $44 billion after buying a 9.2% stake in the social media platform. After much back and forth, the deal was finally agreed upon by both parties as Musk began to hint at a series of changes he would be making to the platform after assuming control, including taking the company public, forcing governments to pay to use Twitter, and making money out of tweets that go viral.

However, the transaction was put on hold when Musk demanded proof that less than 5% of Twitter users are spam accounts and bots. Twitter shares began to tumble as it began to become evident that Musk does not plan to close the deal after all. Today, he has filed to officially terminate the deal.

The new UI lines up Gmail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet in their own side rail.

Google started rolling out an updated user interface for Gmail in February that pulls Meet, Chat, and Spaces closer and applies more of its Material You styling effects. Starting today, it’s becoming opt-out instead of opt-in, so your account will switch over to the new view by default pretty soon.

It’s not a huge change, but as Google transitions through its current flavor-of-the-week messaging app and weaves its Workspace suite into a better competitor for Office, this puts more of a focus on the updated experiences.

Stay connected while disconnecting

The problem with going off-grid is the lack of connection.

The urge to get away from it all without losing access to Slack and Instagram was a #vanlife trend long before COVID-19. The pandemic only accelerated it, fueled by social distancing rules, office closures, and flexible remote work policies that enable more people to set up shop from any location they choose. Few do so, however, because change is hard, and going truly remote often means being out of range of cell towers — but not satellites. That’s where Starlink RV comes in.

Long daily commutes, extensive office meetings, and late night TV binges are not without a health cost. Repeated studies have made it clear that too much sitting is a recipe for an early grave.

Yet like so much in science, the evidence is limited to what can be studied close to home. Far from research institutions of affluent countries, the consequences of sedentary living haven't been scrutinized in as much detail, leaving open the possibility that low and middle income populations might have a different experience.

Now, a study by an international team of researchers involving more than 100,000 individuals across 21 countries has revealed people in poorer parts of the world suffer even worse effects from long days perched in one position.
