It looks like pirates are playing Death Stranding 2 on PC ahead of the launch, just as the game is about to ditch its PlayStation 5 exclusivity officially.

Sony and Kojima Productions' Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was first announced for PC earlier this year, revealing that the game will be shedding its PlayStation 5 exclusivity less than a year after launch. Now, the launch is almost here, but it looks like a preloading blunder on Steam has let pirates jump into the experience earlier than paying customers.

Spotted by DSO Gaming, a leaked build of Death Stranding 2 has appeared on torrent and piracy-focused portals. It looks like the full game too, without any of the encryptions you normally see in pre-loaded packages. The story going around piracy forums is that the developer had uploaded an unencrypted version of the game for pre-loading on Steam accidentally, and before it was fixed, the files, which weigh over 100GB, were already downloaded and being shared.

The leaked files seemingly did have Steam's own protections applied to them, but pirates have already bypassed or removed them. Keep in mind that Sony-published games usually do not use high-profile anti-piracy measures like Denuvo. Of course, there is no guarantee that the leaked files being shared by pirates are untampered.

As expected, the game's online portion won't work in this pirated version. Just like the original, Death Stranding 2 touts a Social Strand asynchronous multiplayer system. While not exactly multiplayer, it lets players band together in their own games to populate the land with structures and rebuild it together, adding bridges, ziplines, roads, vehicles, and more.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is officially releasing on PC on March 19, 2026 at 7:30 am PT across Steam and the Epic Games Store. The PC port is being handled by the Sony-owned Nixxes studio. Find the system requirements over here.

Neowin does not recommend or promote using unofficial and pirated ways of game activation.
