Apple today revealed the dates of its next annual developer conference called WWDC. Developers, enthusiasts, and regular consumers who want to learn more about Apple's upcoming operating systems updates and new features can mark June 6-10 on their calendars.

Like Microsoft with its upcoming Build 2022 developer conference (coming May 24-26), Apple is not ready for in-person WWDC. This year's Worldwide Developer Conference will be the third WWDC Apple hosts online due to the ongoing pandemic.

Building on the success of the past two years of virtual events, WWDC22 will showcase the latest innovations in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS, while giving developers access to Apple engineers and technologies to learn how to create groundbreaking apps and interactive experiences.

“At its heart, WWDC has always been a forum to create connection and build community,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing. “In that spirit, WWDC22 invites developers from around the world to come together to explore how to bring their best ideas to life and push the envelope of what’s possible. We love connecting with our developers, and we hope all of our participants come away feeling energized by their experience.”

While regular consumers will be interested mainly in the first-day keynote where Apple announces new iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, developers will have five days to learn from Apple about new capabilities and tools. Unlike in-person conferences, WWDC 2022 will be a free-to-join event with various events and sessions for developers to sharpen their skills.

Apple also promises more localized content to make WWDC 2022 "a truly global event." Interestingly, Microsoft pushes the same narrative with its Build 2022. It is good to see Microsoft and Apple making good use of online events to reach more around the globe.
