Four years after launching the Studio Display, Apple is bringing a new version of its "entry-level" monitor, along with the brand-new Studio Display XDR, a middle-tier screen that sits between the Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR (which is now discontinued). These two monitors were announced on the second day of Apple's launch week, following the new iPhone 17e and the new iPad Air.

Starting with the Studio Display, it is a 27-inch 5K IPS Retina monitor with P3 wide color support and a maximum brightness of 600 nits. It is a minor update over the original model, and it retains its modest 60Hz refresh rate. However, Apple bumped the maximum brightness by 100 nits (up from the original 500 nits) and improved the built-in speakers for "30% deeper bass."

The Studio Display connects via Thunderbolt 5 (USB Type-C), and it delivers up to 96W of charging over a single cable. Additionally, you have two more USB Type-C ports for peripherals or charging additional devices. Apple lets you spec the monitor with a standard or nano-texture glass. The standard stand comes with tilt adjustments, but you can upgrade to one that also supports height adjustments or one with a VESA mount.

The new Apple Studio Display costs $1,599, and it will be available for preorder on March 4 in 35 countries.

The third monitor in Apple's lineup is the new Studio Display XDR. This model is more expensive, but it makes up for that with a 5K mini LED Retina XDR display with 2,304 local dimming zones and a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits SDR or 2,000 nits HDR. It also has a much more modern refresh rate at 120Hz with Adaptive Sync (47-120Hz), P3 and Adobe RGB support.

Apple also equipped the monitor with DICOM Medical Imaging, a feature that lets doctors view diagnostic radiology images directly on the Studio Display XDR. Like the updated Studio Display, the new Studio Display XDR has a 12MP Center Stage camera, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with spatial audio support.

The new Apple Studio Display XDR

You can connect the Studio Display XDR via a Thunderbolt 5 Type-C cable. The display has two of them, with two more USB Type-C ports for accessories and charging. A single cable (included in the box) carries the image signal and up to 140W of power for Apple's most powerful MacBooks. Finally, the bundled stand comes with tilt and height adjustments, and users can spec with an optional VESA adapter.

The new Apple Studio Display XDR starts at $3,299, and it will be available for preorder on March 4.
