Every month, Steam conducts an optional and anonymous survey to analyze what kinds of computer software and hardware customers use. The latest data for February 2022 does not reveal significant changes in hardware preferences, but it shows Windows 11 steadily climbing and stealing users from Windows 10 and other operating systems.

Windows 10 remains the dominant operating system across Steam. 75.69% of users prefer the almost seven-year-old OS to other releases (-2.13 points in February 2022). Windows 11 holds second place with 15.59% (+2.03). Windows 7, now a dead but not forgotten operating system, still has 4.08% (+0.35 points).

You can expect Windows 11 to continue its steady growth without big spikes. Microsoft does not force Windows 10 users to move to Windows 11, and the newest processors and graphics cards work fine with the previous Windows version. Besides, many users might not be able to update their computers to Windows 11 due to the relatively steep hardware requirements.

Overall, 96.36% of Steam customers prefer Windows (+0.19 points). macOS is second with 2.62% (-0.15 points), and Linux is third with 1.02% (-0.04 points).

Hardware-wise not much has changed since January 2022. Here are the most popular configs among Steam users:

    • CPU Manufacturer: Intel 69.06% (+0.04), AMD 30.92% (-0.04), and Microsoft 0.02%.
    • CPU Specs: 4 physical cores with 2.3-2.69 GHz clocks.
    • GPU Manufacturer: Nvidia 76.14%, AMD 14.82%, Intel 8.83%, and other 0.21%.
    • GPU Models: GTX 1060, GTX 1650, and GTX 1050 Ti.
    • GPU VRAM: 8 GB.
    • Screen resolution: 1920x1080 (single-monitor) and 3840x1080 (multi-monitor).
    • VR: Oculus Quest 2 47.09% (+1.07), Valve Index 14.43% (+0.07%), and Oculus Rift S 12.14% (-0.96).
