Windows 10 has only one month of active support left, but Microsoft is not done with preview updates for the outgoing operating system. Today, alongside a new Canary build for Windows 11 (there is one in the Release Preview Channel as well), Microsoft issued build 19045.6388 (KB5066198) for Windows 10 Insiders who still refuse to upgrade.
Unlike Windows 11 updates, though, do not expect much from today's update. There are no new features, and there are no particular fixes. All Microsoft quotes are "small set of general improvements":
This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for customers and their devices on Windows 10.
Windows 10 will receive its final update on October 14, 2025. After that, the operating system will only get security updates via the Extended Security Updates program. Unlike before, when those updates were only available to commercial customers, Microsoft is letting regular customers sign up as well. However, the company is doing that not out of goodwill. Windows 10 still has a massive market share, with hundreds of millions of PCs still running the outgoing operating system. One extra year of security updates, which can be obtained for free, by the way, will give those users some extra time to plan an upgrade to Windows 11 or whatever comes after it.
