Windows 11 continues climbing, reaches 67.74%, while Windows 10 is at 25.63%.
Valve's latest Steam Hardware & Software Survey results are now available, showing a detailed breakdown of operating systems, processors, graphics cards, and other hardware and software PC gamers use to access the platform. Microsoft rarely announces specific stats and numbers about Windows 11 adoption rate, so the Steam survey is one of the few sources of this kind of data.
According to Valve, Windows 11 remains the go-to operating system on Steam, and its market share continues to grow. As of early May 2026, 67.74% (+0.89 points) of survey participants reported using Windows 11 on their devices. Windows 10 is third with 25.63% (-0.01 points). Windows 7 still has plenty of users to show up on Valve's gauges, and it has 0.07% (-0.01 points). In total, Windows dominates the market with its overwhelming 93.47% (+1.14 points).
Linux is the second most popular OS. In April 2026, its market share decreased by 0.81 points, reaching 4.52%. macOS is third with 2.01% (-0.34%).
As for hardware pics, the overall picture remains mostly the same. Your average gaming PC on Steam has an Intel processor (54.81% against AMD's 45.19%) with six cores (28.62%, +0.85 points), 16 GB of memory (40.86%, -0.11 points), and an NVIDIA graphics card (73.21%, with AMD having 18.6% and Intel 7.81%). The most popular graphics card on Steam is the desktop NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (3.99%, +0.07 points), while the RTX 3050 is second with 3.04%, and the RTX 5070 is third with 2.86%.
The average amount of VRAM is 8GB (26.76%), and the dominant display resolution is the classic 1920x1080 pixels (52.21%, +0.28 points).
