Microsoft has issued a 90-day reminder that Windows 11 version 24H2 Home/Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 reach EOL in October.

Although Microsoft surprisingly extended support for Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) by a year, pushing it to October 2027, the company is a lot more predictable when it comes to end-of-life (EOL) dates for other versions of the operating system. Now, the firm has issued a 90-day reminder about a couple of Windows versions reaching EOL soon.

When it comes to Windows 11, version 24H2 will reach end of support on October 13, 2026, across both Home and Pro Editions. In the same vein, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 is reaching this same milestone on this date too. Following this date, security and non-security updates will no longer be issued to devices running these operating systems, which means that they would potentially be vulnerable to cyberattacks.

This comes as no surprise, as Windows 11 versions come with 24 months of support on Home and Pro SKUs, while Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 came with five years of mainstream support and another five years of extended support. Some of our readers may recall Windows 11 version 23H2 being sunset along the same time frame too.

As it currently stands, Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro users have been urged to upgrade to version 25H2, although we know that version 26H2 is on the horizon too, so that might be a better option. However, if you're on an Enterprise or Education SKU of version 24H2, you can enjoy an additional year of support, until October 12, 2027.

Meanwhile, if you're a Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 customer, you should consider upgrading to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2024. That said, if your organization is not ready for this transition just yet, you can also pay separately for ESUs of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016.

Regardless, it's important to continue receiving security updates and remain supported on your operating system. Microsoft recently patched a whopping 570 vulnerabilities across multiple products via the latest Patch Tuesday update.
