It has been almost six years since Samsung launched its first foldable phone, marking the beginning of a new era in the smartphone market. Since then, we've been constantly hearing rumors and rumblings about Apple's plan to launch a foldable iPhone. After years of anticipation, the wait will come to an end next year, but you should probably set the bar low for the foldable iPhone.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, customers should not expect Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone to be a "major twist." As Gurman explains, Apple doesn't want to push the envelope with its first foldable and intends to follow in the footsteps of other companies.

This means Apple will simply place a standard screen on the outside of the device, and users will need to fold it open to reveal the second screen. When the device is fully unfolded, it should resemble a small tablet.

Gurman says Apple is currently focused on launching a conventional foldable phone and has no plan for a flip model. Meanwhile, the main advantage of the foldable iPhone could be the "strength and reliability of the hinge, plus the lack of a crease in the inner display." Reports suggest that Apple aims to have an almost invisible crease in its upcoming foldable.

"Otherwise, it will just be an iOS variant of the kind of device Samsung has been pushing for years," Gurman added.

Korean sources have recently reported that Apple has ordered 5 million displays from Samsung for its upcoming foldable. It remains to be seen how customers would welcome the device, but Apple's foray into the foldable segment could force Samsung and Google to raise the bar for their following foldable devices.

Moreover, a recent leak by a Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that the device would have a 7.58-inch inner display and a dual 48MP rear camera. Additionally, the tipster notes that the body and hinges are made of titanium and durable composite materials, respectively.
