The latest iOS 27 beta reportedly hints at a dual-battery iPhone

Apple's foldable iPhone is expected to feature a passport-style design, making a dual-battery configuration possible.

iPhone Fold is one of the most anticipated devices Apple is expected to unveil this September. So far, we've heard numerous rumors and reports about Apple's first foldable device, but the latest leak comes from the iOS 27 beta code and hints at a dual-battery iPhone project.

Apple recently released the iOS 27 beta to developers. A deep dive into the software by Macworld has revealed some interesting references to an iPhone with two internal batteries, which could point to the upcoming iPhone Fold.

The outlet says it found new “Battery Health” strings in the iOS 27 beta that refer to an iPhone with multiple internal batteries. One of the strings reads, "The batteries in this iPhone are performing as expected," while another states, "The health of the batteries in this iPhone has significantly degraded." Another string explicitly mentions that one of the batteries is not verified as a genuine Apple battery.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Fold this September. Realistically, you can not put two batteries in conventional iPhones, although reports suggest Apple will increase battery capacity across the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

The iPhone Fold, however, is rumored to feature a passport-style foldable design, making a dual-battery configuration much more practical. Moreover, Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station previously claimed that the iPhone Fold would use a dual-cell battery, with the two cells rated at 1,921mAh and 2,962mAh, respectively. Combined, the foldable iPhone could offer a total battery capacity of 4,883mAh.

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 packs a 4,400mAh battery, while the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a 5,015mAh battery. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also previously reported that the iPhone Fold will use the same high-density battery cell technology as the ultra-thin iPhone 17.
